Ok guys, I have a question. Can you convert to Catholicism and still hate Notre Dame? (I am not really sujre about this, but just wondering). Today, Notre Dame is playing my alma mata, Georgia Tech - Ga Tech will win the game - and there is no doubt for whom I will be cheering. However, it goes much deeper than that. I was raised hating Notre Dame, ever since Ara Parseghian played for the tie against Michigan State back in 1966, and ND was still awarded the national championship (the pollsters had no sense of integrity). Anyway, i will always cheer against Notre Dame and I was just wondering if that precludes conversion. p.s. - I am willing to take bets on the game tonight.

I think you should respect the Old Notre Dame, but it's certainly ok to hate what Notre Dame has become. BTW, what do you mean you were "raised" hating Notre Dame?

Is this not just a football team? I don't understand. Must all Catholics root for the New Orleans Saints ? I don't see how God's greatest gift of grace that is conversion, and your abandon to it can be averted by your allegions in college football. I'm baffled that the question is even asked, let alone those that answers no.

Ok guys, I have a question. I am not a guy, but I am still answering. Can you convert to Catholicism and still hate Notre Dame? (I am not really sujre about this, but just wondering). Yes, you can. Btw, you probably don't really hate Notre Dame anymore than my Dad hated Green Bay as a die hard Lions fan. It is football. Now, if you love football more than Faith, then you might want to reconsider your priorities, but even that is not an impediment to the choice to convert. The graces we need in life flow through the sacraments. We need to receive them before we can benefit from them. I am not a Notre Dame fan, either. Never will be.

I don't think it matters what denomination you come from. Christ doesn't teach us to hate anyone for any reason.
Notre Dame? Go ahead and bash the sports teams. Sports don't matter when it comes to salvation.
A person can convert to Catholicism and still poke fun at the teams from Notre Dame.

Totally, In a way, you can say that hating another team - rivalry -, is what makes sports interesting. To a certain extent, a sane rivalry is built upon a certain respect of the oppopent ability to win, and a fear of losing. It's from that emotion, and it's history, that a sport becomes truely enjoyable to watch.

They are not being raised to have it, it just occurs naturally because they are healthy boys. It would be ridiculous to say that they hate each other. Quite the opposite is true. They love beating the snot out of each other. If someone else were to threaten a brother, though, they stick together.

I really do not know … There are incense and beautiful songs, but on the other hand there are hundreds of onlooking tourists during services and a crystal shop inside the church.
What, are we not speaking of Notre-Dame?

I am assuming that Greg is talking about the University of Notre Dame located in South Bend, Indiana, about an hour away from my house. It has been Catholic in name only for along time now.

Yes, except when they are playing the University of Michigan, then one must root for them (that is, ND). Go Green!

I live in indiana, born and raised to love ND even if I found out they are way too liberal in the words of our bishop most reverand john d'arcy. I still think that the campus is beautyful, and I still hope that notre dame goes all the way even if they got whiped by michagan.

I've hated Notre Dame ever since one of my friends got accepted to college there and wouldn't stop talking about it. You'd think it was the Promised Land or something the way he went on about it, and he still goes on about it like 18 years later! Notre Dame is a cult, plain and simple. Phhht. He should try surviving the Jesuits like I did. To steal from Marty, Notre Dame = soy drinkers

Except I always hated ND, so it was even worse when my buddy was constantly blathering about how great it is. Sadly I just watched them in a miraculous come from behind victory over the Spartans. Truely disqusting.
