Reminds me of this moment in Lawrence of Arabia, when Lawrence and Daud and ... I can't remember the other fellow's name... they're walking through Sinai.

Lawrence ... A pilar of fire!
Daud No, Awrence, dust.

Some tornadoes are monsters, though.  They can be as large as a mile WIDE and have wind speeds exceeding even the strongest hurricanes.

With hurricanes, you generally have enough time to get out of its path.  Tornadoes, little to no warning.

I've been through three hurricanes with in a couple of months: Charley, Frances, and Jeanne.

Tornadoes give you plenty of warning.  Usually, it's nice and sunny in the morning, but really humid.  Then around 1 o'clock, it starts to cloud up, round about 4 the sky's as dark as Satan's waistcoat and there's no breeze at all, usually even the birds and insects go quiet. The air gets so thick you can practically swim through it.  Everyone knows that's tornado weather.

As long as you don't stand in your front yard gaping at the sky like a yokel with a camcorder in one hand and a Schlitz in the other, you'll be fine.

Here it's a little different - and it's always humid, so we can't use that.

But we do have the camcorder yokels!

It can be sunny, or stormy - but you always know that one is coming because of the look of the sky, the HEAVY non-stop lightning, and the hail. But it's very sudden!

The sky gets very dark, but at the horizon it's very light, and you can see the twisters trying to come down and touch ground. And it just doesn't stop lightning.

Spooky!!!!!!

...and I don't mean the good Fisheaters kind, either.
