So did Gale Storm! (extra points if you remember when she was on tv.)
Seriously, Billy Mays, the screaming tv pitchman for OxyClean, etc., was found dead today at his home in Tampa. He had flown home yesterday and on landing, one of the plane's tires blew out, causing a rough landing. He said stuff had fallen on his head and later said he wasn't feeling well but went to sleep, anyway. Sounds like a head injury similar to what happened to the late Natasha Richardson. Mays was 50.
The moral here should be obvious: get checked out by a doctor if you get hit in the head, unless of course you're ready to check out.
David Carradine started this dying craze. . . When will it end? Walter Cronkite is apparently at death's door now.

We should ban celebrities! Do it for the children! If it saves the live of just one...

Ah, radio! Little do these young whippersnappers realise what they're missing. 'The Shadow', 'FBI in Peace and War,' the original "Gunsmoke' with William Conrad as the voice of Matt Dillon! And yes, I remember Gail Storm and Ann Sothern (her spelling of the name).

I would love for such radio programming to come back in style, but I would assume there would be commercial breaks every four or five minutes. I'm trying to remember what Glenn Beck did a couple of years ago when he did a recreation of the War of the Worlds. He tends to have good relationships with his advertisers and probably had bigger gaps in between commercials.

Yes, there were commercial breaks, but IIRC, they were not nearly as frequent as today's. Here in Canada, the CBC still does radio drama (no commercial breaks). We're on summer hiatus, but this last year we had 'Afghanada', a rather dark drama about the Canadian participation in Afghanistan, 'Monsoon House', a comedic story of a publishing house owned by a Bangladeshi immigrant, and another, the name of which escapes me, which was a very funny comedy sci-fi series about Canadians in space in the future.

Rest his soul. R.I.P. Billy Mays. Your commercials will be missed. He was on T.V. so much, it's almost as if he was a member of the family.

I'm probably the only kid in my generation who grew up listening to Little Orphan Annie, Fibber Mcgee, Lux radio theater, etc. Favorite was Mary Worth... and The Shadow.
