That idea is true of any genre. All stories have basically already been told. The Epic of Gilgamesh comes to mind. Anyways I keep wondering how they are going to end the series. Will they reach Earth or not?

of course, stargate is an optimistic franchise.  it all depends on whether sci-fi (whoops I meant syfy) keep renewing the series.  That is usually the best hindrance on what a sci-fi shows can do is whether there is a next season.  SG-1 had four consectutive series enders. only to be brought back season after season and I think that hurt the show developmentally, because you killed the bad guy at the end of season 5, well we can't just have the same kind of bad guy for the next season, we need someone who is badder ass (as Anubis was and ReplCarter and the Ori),  And since SyFy is notoriously cheap (they cancelled Farscape in its prime), it is not out of the world of possibility especially if SGU doesn't deliver in the ratings.  Though I do predict an Atlantis style run of five seasons, usually most sci-fi shows have four or five seasons in them, then they become drawn out and stuff.  In five seasons, they can cover a lot of ground.  I do think that the writers will start making it lighter in tone because I think that is what the typical stargate audience like and probably tone down the sexuality.  You don't want to turn this in to Battlestar Galactica 2, which maybe great in bringing in regular folks, but they don't buy the merchandise and/or dvds.  but they will get home, they will find some Ancient wormhole drive that will send them halfway across the universe.

Well so far, there isn't even a bad guy, although I'm sure they will introduce one eventually. Another way of introducing bad guys would be to have one of the main characters turn into a villain, but then they might have to kill em off eventually. Now that the ship has power, I wonder if they will be able to repair it some and enter some of the other areas of it. Perhaps Dr. Rush will find some more answers about who the Ancients were and why they built the Stargates.

I suppose science fiction in general has a lot of Deus-ex-machina type endings, which is fine for a show, but can seem like a cop out and not quite as realistic as one might want.

As I like to say if I wanted realism, I would turn off the tv and go into the real world.  I watch television and movies to escape the real world.

Well, since it is a large ship, you might get some tribalism going on, which would be an interesting angle.  Like the scientists, military, politicians, and the others who thought it would be cool to see another planet sort of play each other for supplies and stuff.

You may not have a true bad guy the first season, I mean you may get some bad guys, but there will probably not be an archvillain like Anubis or Apophis.  As I said eventually they will need food and probably find some world and they do the Star Trek Voyager thing.

I was thinking though, that it is quite possible that Destiny is sentinent,  that it knows humans are onboard and knows what they need for survival hence why it went to the desert planet or recharged the battery when it did and so on

Yes, I was thinking that as well, and Dr. Rush has already hinted at that.

I'm still unhappy, if I wanted black and white I'd call Sherman and Peabody get in the wayback machine and go back to 50's where I'm from. Turn up the lights!!!

Yeah I did. The aaa penlights are not enough. I didn't like nor watch BSG or the new Sanctuary they have the same lack of light and color. I like TV for color and good or silly stories that do not have a lot of soft porn. I have about 6 programs per week I like to watch and I'm losing it with this one. Bring back the magic ring.

So far, I am liking Universe much more than any of the other Stargate series (especially Atlantis!). I hope they won't start using the Stargate too often too soon. As it is now, Stargate Universe has a much more distinct character, which I think is a good thing.

well, technically it isn't magic how the ring works, it is an enormous superconductor capable of generating stable wormholes between two points, which is technically plausible though probably improbable.  Wink

Well, SGU has a certain different charm, so far there is the survival mentality to it, not like SG1 where there was villain after villain that was killed in entertaining but predictable action and the stock episode where they get trapped by something and they have to figure out how to get out.  Atlantis took SG-1 and add a lot more techno-bable to it and as much as I like Dr. McKay, a little too much also I don't know how he ends with attractive women in either our reality and an alternative one, mad scientists like him and me are destined to be single  Laughing.  At least most of Carter's solutions weren't so out of the box at least earlier in the series and she did a good job trying to explain it to O'neill

The Water Episode (just some rather undeveloped thoughts)

This one seemed just like the others: we're all gonna die! Blehhh....

At least it got interesting with the alien stowaway (s). I do wonder if that's an Ancient, because I didn't think that they would do violence.

The theme of working for the greater good, even when it means sacrificing one's life was pretty good.

I didn't care for the make out scene; I mean really is that necessary? LOL. I didn't think that Eli's character was quite what it has been in the past. I understand that he's the character some of the audience members may relate to more since he's just a geek, but he seemed a bit too spastic with the aliens. If he thinks spaceships are cool, why would he be fearful of aliens? It didn't quite sit well with me as I watched it.

I think the predominance of black and white is purposeful, but it doesn't bother me.

Because he is a geek and has watched to many movies with bad aliens in them, or played too many games where he had to fight them? That is how I took it. He is smart, but his imagination runs wild sometimes.

I saw that in the next episode there may be more light so I am hopeful. I don't think the water mist creatures had anything to do with the Ancients. The make out scene really disturbs me for two reasons. The first is I don't want it as it is un-necessary, and the second is he is a pimply faced kid and she is baby fat girl. If you are going to do soft porn then you need the chick from Star-Trek that was borg, or the one where the Vulcan one looked like an elf, or the chick that was a Ceylon on BSG, not the pilot woMAN cause she looks like a man, and then all of these make it to a near occasion of sin.  Just sayin'.
