The Hammer of the Heretics

« Reply #45 on: October 31, 2009, 04:32:PM »

whoa, I didn't realized that Senator Daughter Chick (I know her name is Chloe) is a little chubby till you mentioned it.

I was wrong about the water myst creatures, it wasn't an ancient, though I think they will be happy that they are on a water rich ice planet than a hot, arid desert planet.  In some ways this episode reminded me of some of the older SG-1 episodes, where you have an alien that is largely incapable of indirect contact with humans, the two sides conflict and then a solution is worked out.  Though this episode's solution was very unlike SG-1 kind, where SG-1 would get the creature to leave the base or whatever voluntary not trap it and throw it into the gate.

Rush is still withholding much information from them.  Lt. Scott hinted that perhaps the ship is sentinent or have some kind on idea that humanoids are on the ships and must tend to their needs.  I am still holding out for an episode where they reach an idyllic planet and people would prefer to settle there than go on in the Destiny where there is little chance of going home.

It seems to me that they haven't still settled on what they want the characters to be, like I thought Medic Chick was going to be a throne in the side as an antagonist for at least the first season, but she seemed like a normal, responsible officer.  Last episode Rush wasn't a complete douche, this episode he didn't get his douche factor up to the pilot episode factor, but it seems like he is adjusting to life with everyone else.

I find it odd that a spaceship capable of sequestering CO2 (in additional to all of it's amazing other functions) cannot recycle water or create water by sucking gas from space and stuff.

Yes, in this series make out scenes have been largely unneccessary except to provide some dramatic friction between Eli, Scott, and Chubby Senator Daughter Chick.  Today's episode make out scene would have made more sense if Col. Young whipped Scott for not having his radio on and stuff, then you have a cause and effect, instead you have Lt. Busty seeing them and she doesn't do anything, just smiles and nods.  Whether or not she uses their relationship against them hasn't been seen yet.

Crazy bald sargeant is probably going to get killed or taken over by some alien entity, I can see it.

For each episode I am not going to do a rating factor for each episode:
Chubby Senator Daughter Chick Slut Factor: 3, at least she didn't try to get it on with Eli in this episode too

Rush's Kanye Factor (Kanye meaning jackass)- 4, up from last week's rating of 3, but down from the pilot's rating of 9

Crazy, black, unibrow guy- 5, I digged the improvised flamethrowerd

Eli's geek factor- 5, standard Star Wars and Alien reference, not much technobabble or mathspeak.

I'm hoping that fat math boy gets more involved. Why did they invent the device to get him into the space ship play and then have him be a piece of scenery?? What originally brought me to this program was the actor on earth that wants to take over. I can't remember his name right now it is a senior kind of day. But he doesn't appear in many movies and many are "B" movies but he can act. For me this is still bumping down there at about the bottom. One more time and I'll see if it gets better.

bygummit, I am going to write a letter to all the writers now, this episode really disappointed me.  And don't think it doesn't work, when it is sci-fi it is such a smaller field than others, I remember I wrote an email to Sci-Fi one time about programming schedule and how I was disappointed about how they moved this show to this time, and within a month it was back to the time I was accustomed too.

While I admit, I was curious to see the stones affect on the users was intriguing, the whole Colonel Young and his wife in Colonel Talford's body sex scene was too unnerving for me and obviously high drama is now going to happen whenever Young and Talford switch as Talford is going to use Young's wife to get back at him for taking his command and stuff.  And while this is all and good for the reimagined BSG, this isn't Stargate.  Now since this is a new series, they are trying to get new angles and stuff, but I don't like it.  I think the core of the base made up of militant nerds like me will not respond well to it.  While the first several seasons of SG-1 were frought with sexuality particularly the first season, none were so explicit as the last episode (usually there would be a kissing scene followed by a dissolved followed by a scene not remotely related).  I say though that this episode strength is Math Boy, because well everything he said is me, including when he was in the car with chubby, slutty, senator daughter chick he said hear it comes, and she says that he is a good friend, which we all know is womanspeak for you're a loser.

Also, is anyone else bothered by how much weight Richard Dean Anderson has put on, he needs to hire me on a trainer, though curiously he is now a three star general and I wonder when that happened.

Okay, I was following this time warp episode until the end. I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to it, because I just don't get exactly how it ends.

well, he throws the kino in the gate as the solar flare affects the wormhole creating another time loop, so when the team goes to the planet for the first time and find it, they will see Lt. Scott's message and hopefully get it right.  And if they get it right, they capture the creature during the day, get the venom, concoct some cure, and then no one dies and they go on their merry way making sure they purify the water next time.  The message in the bottle theme was used several times in SG-1, such as the second season episode "1969" and season four's "2010" as well the movie Stargate: Continum.  I guess the writers of this episode didn't find it pertinent to show the actual solution as that was the common Modus Operandi of SG-1 and Atlantis and they wanted it to be a little different, just show all the drama and then next week, everyone is kosher again till there is some other drama plot and it looks like next week's is going to be a little too drama heavy for me.

I find it interesting that they are rushing to close many subplots already.  Next week's trailer showed Young and Talford going at it already, which I thought would be a much longer.  And with the complexities the stones create, I think you could see a decrease of their usage in the second half and more restricted usage of it.  This current episode had some of the trappings of the other series, go to an alien planet, explore, something goes wrong, a solution is found, etc but I found the camera angles to be quite annoying, why can't they just keep the camera still for one minute as the characters talk, it is like the cameraman is drunk.

I didn't like that half of the episode was through the eyes of the kino.

I think the camera work is supposed to be like that. It's sort of a certain style. Sometimes they have these weird camera fads shows go through.

I'm not going to watch this show anymore because it promotes homosexuality. It showed two lesbian characters kissing twice in this most recent episode. It was just so gross.

I thought this show was going to be about science fiction, but it seems it's only about people stuck on a spaceship billions of light-years from Earth dealing with their modern day "issues". So much for creativity.

I'm done with it too, I couldn't even watch this whole episode, so much for taking a road less taken

I just watched the last three episodes. The stones device that enables them to swap bodies and return to earth is a really stupid plot device. I hoped initially they would barely use it, and am disappointed so much of the SU story depends on it (and, as far as I can tell, will depend on it in future episodes).
