MS's Age of Empires is my favorite video game. Are their other games like this? I tried Rome: Total War but didn't like it.

Hmm.... like Age of Empires in the sense that it's based in historical civilizations, or because it's a real-time strategy games where you collect resources, expand bases and fight with small armies?

Real-time strategy, collecting resources, building towns, and fighting. I do like video games set in the past, but I would be interested in this kind of game set in any period.

Okay. The RTS par excellence is considered by most RTS fans to be Starcraft. It's an old game by Blizzard (1998 or so) so it should work on everyone's computer. It's one of my favourites as well. It'd be a good idea to play the first one before moving on to SC II, which comes out next year (theoretically).

Other excellent RTS games....

-Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, set in an alternate universe where the Soviet Union is ridiculously powerful and the Japanese Empire never fell

-Company of Heroes, a typical Axis vs. Allies title

-Rise of Nations, a game that's sort of like Age of Empires but spans across all of human history

You're welcome. As for Starcraft, just go ahead and buy the Battle Chest. It should include the Brood War expansion. It's pretty much a must-have. You'll be glad you did.

I'm surprised I've never heard of Starcraft before. I checked out the reviews on Amazon and people say this is the best video game of all time. The most exciting gaming experience I've ever had was when I first played Half Life 1 & 2. But I find that these FPS games become boring once you've run through them a couple times (although if I knew how to use mods maybe I could extend their entertainment value). I've been playing the Age of Empires franchise for years and have never lost interest.  Hopefully Rise of Nations and Starcraft will be as good.

You would like Cossacks. It is AoE on Steroids. Did you every get tired of being restricted to the number of units and buildings? Well not on Cossacks. You can build until your video card melts. I haven't played Cossacks II, yet. My computer isn't good enough to run the graphics.

Thanks Mac! That looks to be a promising one too. I have a weak video card, so I don't think I'll be creating 8,000 soldiers, but even 300 is more than I can create with AoE.
