Well the main group of Gypsies/Roma are a distinct ethnic group that originally came from India and brought their own language with them.

Being partly of Norwegian extraction, I enjoy lutefisk.  Now there's some stinky fish.  Hence my high stink factor.

True, that. What CC is referring to is groups like the 'Tinkers' in Ireland, who follow the 'gypsy' lifestyle but are not Roma.

I saw a few gypos in Tbilisi Georgia, begging, and I've got to say that they REALLY looked Indian.  They were certainly the darkest gypsies I had ever seen.  A real dab of the tar brush.  Apparently they just wander over the borders between Azerbajan, Armenia and Georgia all the time.  Just taking mountain paths to avoid the border patrols.  The Georgians did not seem to mind them.  In Italy they are utterly hated.

"Take courage. Do manfully" (cf. Joshua 1:18).

Men of God rise up! Why is it we can fill sports stadiums but not adoration chapels? Why is it we can read pornography, but our Bibles and breviaries sit gathering dust? Why are our stomachs filled with good beer and rich fare, but millions starve? Why will we wear our feet to bone in pursuit of entertainment, but we won’t lift a finger to fight abortion? Please, my brothers, let us pray! Time grows short and there is much work to do. To your breviaries. To your Rosaries. Stand-up for Jesus.

No, it is not "un-PC", it is wrong.

They are the Romani, and "gypsy" is a mistake based on the belief they came from Egypt (which they don't) and that they were wandering as punishment. The term gypsy is used by them sometimes depending on the meanings it has in the area. In America, it isn't negative, so they sometimes use it.

And where was "Romania" meantioned? It happened in Bulgaria.
