Beltway sniper John Muhammad is to be executed in Virginia tomorrow, by lethal injection.  funny, i didn't remember he was a muslim, or even his obviously muslim name, and haven't seen it brought up in the wake of the ft. hood jihad.  i guess the media, as usual, tiptoed around that inconvenient fact.  has tv news mentioned the execution at all?

WASHINGTON - Seven years ago, the captured "Beltway Snipers" - John Allen Muhammad, 41, and his 17-year-old accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo - were in federal custody, accused of 16 shootings and 10 murders. They had set out to create a reign of terror in the Washington area to match the terrorist attacks of the year before.

Attorney General John Ashcroft had a choice: He could send them to be tried in Maryland, where most of the murders took place but where the death penalty was on hold because of the specter of racial unfairness. Or he could send them across the Potomac River to Virginia, the site of three of the killings and where death sentences are carried out swiftly.

Ashcroft chose Virginia.

well, i don't know that death sentences are carried out that swiftly in virginia, considering it's been seven years.

i hope the governor can't give muhammad an 11th hour reprieve, because the governor is now a lame duck, might think he has nothing to lose.

That guy sure did scare the crap out of me at the time, though.  I was living in Fredericksburg, VA then (the site of two of the killings), and my parents were closer to DC.  I remember freaking out about walking from my car into the grocery store!

Lord have mercy. He will face particular judgment with the Divine Master on that day.
Satan is probably waiting to add yet another soul to his legion of the damned.

Sad.

Seven years is lightening speed compared to California.

Seven years is plenty of time to see the error of your ways.  It has a nice Biblical ring to it.

He killed less people than Ted Kennedy and served more time for it.

Why did he kill them by the way?  Was he just mentally ill?

I can imagine. I was actually pretty freaked out after 9/11 for a few weeks. I was pretty sure a chem attack was imminent.

yes, his ex-wife has a book coming out.  she says he changed while he was in iraq during the first gulf war.  i think everyone changes in war, though, so who knows why he did it.

Yeah, he changed...he wanted to get even for America killing his terrorist buddies. What about the Muslim juvenile that was sentenced to life in prison? I suppose once the Supreme Court rules that international law is more important than the US Constitution he will be released to continue jihad.
