A good analysis of the likelihood of the bill passing in the Senate:

Now, if the government makes it required to have health insurance, and I don't have it, what are they going to do? Jail me? Can't we just ignore it?

I have read that under the proposed bill, if you refuse to have any health insurance, or ignore it, as you say, you would be fined.  I'm not positive about this, but I recall reading it.

Fined and up to a year in jail. Hey, at least when you are in jail you will get free health care!
