(I am looking for another source, but here's what I have to offer so far)

http://honresp-catholicblog.blogspot.com/2009/11/vatican-sspx-talks-are-being-filmed.html

Quote
The discussions are not in Latin. They appear to be in French and Italian; all those participating understand these languages, but since none is completely at home in one or other of the languages, they are provided with simultaneous translation.

The SSPX delegation is staying at the Domus Sanctae Marthae, where the cardinals have lodged for papal conclaves.

Since all the altars at the Domus are already booked for Masses, the SSPX’s Masses are celebrated in St Peter’s Basilica.

Lastly, and I think most interestingly, the proceedings are being filmed, so that the Holy Father can watch them.

They don't have jurisdiction.  But what does that have to do with it, anyway?

The anticipation of the results of these meetings is killing me!!!

P.S. I can't understand why anyone would think they would have their discussions in Latin - that would be just anal-retentive.

Most people in the Vatican can't speak Latin anyway. It would be counter-productive.

There is only one true, holy, Catholic church, which is the Apostolic Roman Church. There is only one See founded in Peter by the word of the Lord, outside of which we cannot find either true faith or eternal salvation. He who does not have the Church for a mother cannot have God for a father, and whoever abandons the See of Peter on which the Church is established trusts falsely that he is in the Church." - Pius IX, Singulari Quidem.

I think the first is pure ironic justice for the nay-saying conservative types.  I love it.

The second is most intriguing for two reasons that come immediately to my mind.

1st:
I have recently been reading the letters exchanged between Cardinal Ratzinger and Archbishop Lefebvre.  Ratzinger did not then seem to look in any way favorably toward the archbishop's actions.

2nd:
Prior to his appointment to the CDF (he may not have stopped even then, I'm not sure), Ratzinger used to regularly host colloquia in which various topics which interested him would be discussed among himself and a number of other scholars.  He has hosted at least two such events while pope.  I don't know whether they were filmed.

He is sufficiently interested in what is being discussed to desire the next best thing to actually being present and participating in the discussions himself.

Even beyond that; there are probably less than 50 people in the entire world who can really truly speak latin fluently, as naturally as they speak English, and I'd wager that a good proportion of them are humanist or episcopalian Classics professors Tongue

If by "anal-retentive" you mean "totally awesome," I agree.

Yeah, well, you gotta start somewhere, right? Besides, if the Finns can have regular Latin-language radio news broadcasts, surely the Vatican can take heart! http://www.yleradio1.fi/nuntii/
