Could someone fill me in on what happened in Venezuela concerning Betania?  Were there messages?  I understand there is some true apparitions and some false claims involved.

Can someone fill me in?

Google Maria Esperanza. She had St Padre Pio's endorsement. She predicted 9/11 well before it happened. There is much to say about her, just google it. I believe she will be declared a saint.

I think the local bishop approved the apparitions, though the Church hasn't made any formal pronouncement as of yet.

He has. St Padre Pio's endorsement alone should cinch it. Pio appeared to her the night before he died and told her it was "her turn"
She is the real thing.

Yet people only noticed after?

Some people. I've known about her a long time. I've read almost everything about Padre Pio and he met her many many years ago.
If someone didnt know about her, thats on them, not her.

Did she have any messages about the chastisement?  I can't seem to find any.

Also, I heard that Rick Salbot on unitypublishing.com believes the woman called Esperanza is lying.  He says: "Maria Esperanza is not of God," yet the apparitions are true, according to him.  Anyone know the truth from the lies in this one?

Well, folks said that Padre Pio endorsed Garabandal, which turned out to not be so true....

The question you ask should be rephrased.  "Who you gonna believe, Rick Salbot, or what people say about St. Padre Pio?"  If you have some sort of proof of Padre Pio's endorsement, you'll have convinced me he endorsed her.
