My dearest Loyola

An "altar call" in Protestantism is "Please come up to the front and accept Jesus' into your heart tonight, so you can be saved and go to Heaven".

A sidenote: I have been present to MANY 'altar calls' in my life. (My grandfather, uncles and even me were part of his evangelical/musical ministry...we'd travel everywhere for 'revivals' Billy Graham style). In those years, I saw same people making altar call, which confused me, the belief we had was "once saved, always saved.....though you could "backslide", your still saved) and those people returning were of two groups: Those who wanted to 'show off' their supposed piety, humility and the other group, which were truly penitent and they needed assurance of Heaven. Thank goodness our souls are fed with the Eucharist and watered with the Sacrament of Confession.

An altar call is where a Protestant "minister" calls anyone who has not already done so to come to the front of the church and "accept Jesus Christ into their hearts as his own personal Lord and Savior".  They are then (probably invalidly) baptized whenever the next "baptisms" take place.

I said: did the leader make some sort of Altar Call during the last speech?"

other leader: NO!!!!!!!!! it was not an altar CALL! He just asked you to accept Jesus christ as your personal savior!

the whole time i kept arguing against faith alone.

until on the ride back someone asked what church i went to

  so i said it.

and they said: is that a catholic Church?

  me: yes

  Them: I thought so

I've got my share of Protestant stories.

My favorite, though, was when my Baptist cousin thought that my holy water was cologne.  She opened it up and dabbed some on her wrists...sounds kind of stupid, but I thought it was funny.

An altar call is when the lector's cell phone rings while she's in the sanctuary.
