Preterism

What is preterism?

 

I never heard of it until 2 weeks ago when I was looking into the John Hagee bunk. I came across a few protestant websites that claim to be preterist because they do not accept the rapture bunk.

 

I looked the word up in my   (c. 2000) but it isn't there. I looked on wiki but it is one of those under construction and contested pages.

 

Is it simply a new term for an end-time theory?

It's a variation of eschatology -- the Last (four) Things:  

• death; the approach of the end of the world;
• the resurrection of the body
• the general judgment; and
• the final consummation of all things.

Preterists would reject the error of the rapture based upon their own error--that all Biblical prophesy is completely fulfilled.
