This is one of those questions I should know the answer of....
I was just wondering what the different coloured ribbons that are found in Missal's are called and do the colours represent the current time in the Church calendar?
If so, green would be used for the period we are in now yeah?
Beauty.
Here's what my Fr. Lasance New Roman Missal says
Yellow(gold)ribbon- for ordinary of the Mass
Green ribbon- on Sundays after Pentecost; also Sundays from Epiphany to Septuagesima
White ribbon- on feasts of Our Lord except those of his passion; on feasts of Our Lady; on feasts of Saints not Martyrs
Red ribbon- on Pentecost; on feasts of the passion; on feasts of the martyrs
Purple ribbon- in Advent and Lent; on Vigils of greater feasts
Black ribbon- Masses for the dead
The Priest at the altars vestments should match the color of the ribbon.
