I just posted in the "pig roast" that I recently got engaged... The problem is, however, I also just got laid off from my civilian job. That unstable company threw a rather larger wrench into my plans. Oh well, things happen for a reason.

But I was wondering if some prayers could be said to St Joseph? I am not looking to get a job making 100 million a year or anything, but I would like to be able to support my soon to be wife and 43.2 children (Lord willing...).

BTW, Is it just me, or does it seem like there has been a rash of employment problems lately?

Thanks and God bless you all.

Yes, there has been a rash of employment problems.  The U.S. government hemorhages productive wealth as it props up its far-flung empire.  What's good for politicians, central banks, the military-industrial complex and "special" allies isn't necessarily good for the rest of the country.

To think there's no place in this economy for a lively, literate bunch like the participants in this forum.  The neo-cons, war liberals and Greatest Generation apologists should be ashamed of themselves.

I hope you don't find yourself in this situation with 43.2 kids.  I'm experiencing enough anxiety with my 1.0.

God Bless and hang in there. I know how this can be first hand. If anyone needs cheering up you can e-mail me. I am praying, we are all in this together.

P.S. Jubilatedeo, that avatar of yours is exactly the face that I made for the many long months my husband searched for work that paid more the $9.00 to $14.00 per hour. With six little ones  and a too, too ,too big mortgage from borrowing to survive, that does not stretch very far at all. Yes, I too think that there is something rotten about this all. Every time I heard someone like Rush Limbaugh tell me that there is no problem and the ecomomy is great and blah, blah, blah, I wanted to shake him.

Prayers for you.

I am making good money, but hate my job and the "poofter" (as Marty would say) I have for a boss to tolerate on a daily basis as well as the corporate mentality that does not think it enough that one does good work with his hands but also has to make fancy spread sheets with meaningless data no one looks at anyways.

Not to get too off topic, but I just heard that we are spending $2.5 Billion a week on the war in Iraq. What the heck for and where is that money coming from??? Our tax dollars at work.

Only select portions of the so-called military/industrial complex are  doing well.  Anything not directly, and I do mean directly,  involved in operations in Iraq is being starved for money.  A  contributing factor to my lay-off was the fact that most forms of  directed-energy technology are now far down on the list of  priorities.  Similar belt-tightening is going on throughout DoD.

I noticed you said "civilian" job.  Are you in the Guard or  Reserves?  If so, your best move may be to volunteer or otherwise  finagle your way into a deployment or even go over to the Active side.

You're in our prayers. I know the feeling of trying to look for a new job.

Just think though, someone out there is looking for you. You just need to meet up.

I am in the Ohio Air Guard and have no desire to go back active duty. Deployment does not appeal to very much as well. But with the way things have been going, ya never know... I am in the process of transferring units, though, and am cross-training from being an aircraft electrician to sat comm. This means I will be in school for three months and OJT for another two. So I will get E-5 pay here shortly. The problem is that I don't know when I am heading to Looooosiannaaaaa. Could be next week. Could be in three months. We will see what happens. After that, I am hoping to get a full time slot in my new shop as a GS-11. Would be nice. I could support my Anita on that and have outstanding job security. Won't get rich, but that is not why we are here on the earth anyway. Another prospect is as a test specialist at GE Aircraft Engines here in Cincinnati. It would pay pretty well, but the security is not as good considering that GE's management gets a brain cramp and fires about 30 thousand poor schmucks every few years. We will see what Our Lord has in store...

Thanks for your prayers... All of you.
