Good one!! so true, I have a neighbor that is ex-Catholic, no member of WWCG (Armstrong's cult). Her mouth dropped, when I said 'We (Catholic) ARE the true Church. She was railing against the belief that anyone has the truth.

My uncle is a minister in that church and while I stayed with them years ago I would attend.  While my uncle was on the high school swim team (I"m talking 16 years old) his coach evangelized him into Armstrong's religion.  That caused huge problems for my catholic grandmother and all her remaining children, her own son was telling her she was going to hell.     When my husband and I became Catholic it threw him for a loop, after all, I knew what the Catholic church was.

As far as your neighbor railing against the belief that anyone has the truth she isn't doctrinated that well.  The WWCG believes in a type of EENS, applying to them.  They are the truth and the only truth, as expressed by armstrong himself.  That's interesting.

The soul is a breath of living spirit, that with excellent sensitivity, permeates the entire body to give it life. Just so, the breath of the air makes the earth fruitful. Thus the air is the soul of the earth, moistening it, greening it.

That's a prerequisite for even beginning to claim that you are a legitimate church, IMO.  Scripture is completely clear on that: there is only one Church, and it is a pillar and foundation of truth.  When I was in the process of converting, I remember my dad wanted me to join his Baptist church; I asked him "are you guys the one true Church, able to preserve and teach the faith infallibly?", and he gave a similar answer: "there is no one true Church, no one pure and pristine denomination that has all the Truth without error."  I basically said, "then you've just disqualified yourself from the running - I'm looking for a church that at least claims to be infallible."

Honestly, if a person says, "no, my denomination isn't infallible," or "no one has all the truth," then why should I listen to anything else they have to say?  They've just admitted, basically, that they're in error, or soon will be.

Since I came back, these two threads on the NOM has been too great for me to follow.  So, if the following opinion has already been offered, my apologies.

Promulgated by a true pope, the NOM is licit.  But liceity has nothing to do with validity.  There are certain conditions that would make the NO invalid.

The NOM could both be valid and licit (which hitherto is unusual to find).  However, that's not what should be asked.  What should be determined is whether the NOM is pleasing to God; that it is the Sacrifice exacted by Him and expected to be offered to Him for the expiation and atonement of sin..  A minute examination of the NOM lacks this condition.

The NOM, being the present licit form of the Mass, is there for us simply to fulfill the Sunday (and Holyday) of obligation.  Catholics are still obliged to hear Mass on pain of mortal sin, unless there is a valid excuse not to.  If the TLM is not available, we still have to obey and adhere to the precept of the Church.
