Dear Ivar,

I don't want to pour cold water on your very sincere efforts. But I am a little surprised that a genuine "pipe/tobacco" shop would send a beginner home with "Borkum Riff". Although there is a lot of it sold each day, there are a lot of  "better quality" tobaccos that I would think a quality shop would have recommended to a beginner first? Did they have any blends in jars?

I am just trying to have your first experience be a good one.

I have smoked my first pipe. I liked it. The smoke tasted pretty good, allthough I got alot of tounge bites. (but hey, its my first time)

How long does a pack(smoke) last?

Dear Ivar,

Congratulations !! Welcome to the "Brotherhood of the Briar".

I am glad that you liked it and I am not surprised. Better tobacco a good pipe and practice will eliminate the tongue bite believe me and you will enjoy it more with each bowl full.

A bowl should take about 30 minutes or more...if you are going slow....smoking too fast...in an attempt to get more taste....etc. is often the cause of tongue bite.

thanks

This bowl lasted for about 20 minutes, but I think I smoked it to fast. How many times do you light it? I think I lighted it.... well, many many times

I, quite possibly. We'll see. If it turns out God is calling me to be a priest (that would surprise me), I'll of course have to. But I don't know if that's not a valid reason not to marry who I'm sure I'll be marrying. ;)

Dear Fridayer,

Great,

Now is the best time for you to start and get a good foundation. If your vocation is marriage, nothing befits the patient and wise husband and father better than a pipe. Much wisdom is dispensed to loving children by their fathers after time spent in contemplation with their pipes.

As you are in Canada, there are some wonderful Canadian resources available to you to get you off on a great start with a good pipe, good tobacco and some good instruction.

Dear Fridayer,

Here is a great place to start. You can take a look at the Brigham Pipe site:
http://www.brighampipes.com/2006%20Update.htm

They make wonderful pipes right in Canada. If you look for a local shop in your area, you should also be able to see some Savinellis, and Stanwells which would also make good starter pipes for you.
There are also wonderful pipe clubs in Vancouver and Ottowa as I recall and their websites also over good resources.
