Dear Chris,

Congratulations

That is wonderful news. Now the fun of "anticipation" begins.

The Bosewells are truly wonderful people to deal with. I hear it over and over again. That is why I always recommend them to new pipe smokers. They have some wonderful blends to try and I'll send you the names of a couple of other blends that I think you might enjoy.

I think I would keep my pipe tobacco in a clean and separate container, so it can't pick up any "stray" influences.

I keep my pipe tobacco in sealed Mason Jars, such as you would use for canning. I use the small ones, with the wide mouths, so that as you open one jar, the rest are still sealed. They are easy to carry along on a trip and yet keep the tobacco sealed tight.

Let us know how you enjoy your new Boswell. We hope that you are the next success story.

Hey there just thought I would but in. I have been a pipe smoker for about a year and I still consider myself a novice that's for sure. It's such a relaxing hobbie. It's great to fire up the briar after a hard day at college.

Dear Baskerville,

Welcome to the Brotherhood of the Briar

That is the idea

A pipe is a wonderful way to relax, think and contemplate.

We are very glad to have you with us. We hope that we can help enhance your experience while affirming and supporting you among the growing number of pipe smokers.

What drew you to the pipe?  Any relatives, experiences, examples in your life ?

Thanks for the welcome. To answer your question my Grandfather always smoked a pipe as far back as I can remember, and my Grandmother would always light incense that they usually used for prayer in whatever room where he smoked to get rid of the smell, unless he smoked certain types of tobacco that she didn't hate.  When I got out of high school I started smoking the occasional cigar but I hated the fact that they always got too moist and fell apart in my mouth. I eventually decided on a whim to try a pipe.(That and I always thought it looked fun and relaxing on the Lord of the Rings. ) I went down to my tobacconist and bought a corncob and some Sir Walter Raleigh and smoked it way to hot. Eventually I burnt a hole in my corncob. So I went out and got a more pricey briar( I have three now) and the tobacco my Grandpa usually smoked and went from there. I've only tried about 9 brands of tobacco so far. But I am still working at getting as much experience as I can. I found a good packing technique on line the other day that has helped a lot.

Your sure right about contemplating. For some reason it is a lot easier to think while puffing.

It's SPRINGTIME!!! Sooooo.... What's everybody smoking these days.  I just cracked open a tin of Irish Flake (Peterson) and have some Old Growrie (Rattrays) waiting on deck.

Well yesterday I smoked some Carter Hall. Today I wike up with a cold (runny nose and sore throat) so no smoking for me today.

well I'm smoking Mac Baren Original Choice, This spring, same as I always do.  Sure it might be a "novice" tobacco but I like it and you should smoke what you like right?

For sure, thats the whole point. I am still kinda new at the pipe but I like Captain Black Cherry and Cpt Black royal and most "mature" pipe smokers frown on "The Captain" but I like him.
