No, I don't smoke and won't. I love the smell of Dad's tobacco though, and I can appreciate the beauty of anything well made.

Forgive me for a really bad question. Do you like the taste of pipe smoke? I had an uncle who smoked a pipe and we all loved the smell of it, and we kides (aged about 9-14) used to ask him to have a go, which he would, and we would all sort of choke-die to death. Now of course, we were stupid kids. But my question remains. Is it like whiskey (which I LOVE), an acquired taste, or to an adult, does it taste as good as it smells? I might try it if that is the case.

Its more like Scotch, you have to find one that suits you.

Dear Fridayer,

Any of these will be crowd pleasers, but especially "Georgian Cream". They are also wonderful tobaccos for the smoker. I know that you can't get Boswells in Canada, but I want to list it for our USA friends.

Pennsylvania Dutch Treat is my personal favorite.

Black Cordial

Old Drum

All are easily available via the internet.

Hey ESpear I hate to bug you but I was wondering if you could give me a tobacco suggestion. Lately I have been smoking Carter Hall and Prince albert along with some Vanilla blend who's name escapes me (I am at a friends house so I can't check). Do you have any suggestions of good tobacs in the Prince Albert/Carter hall style. And any good Vanilla and Chocolate types?
Thanks so much.

Dear Baskerville,

It sounds like you would like Dutch Treat. It has a wonderful mild flavor and many folks enjoy an aftertaste of "chocolate covered cherries" from it.

I have found the vanilla creams and the chocolate creams from a variety of blenders...way too mild for me with no taste. But everyone has a different taste.

I think that with any of the blends that I mentioned you are going to realize a tremendous difference in quality. The tobaccos are all going to have better smoking qualities. You will discover an entire new world of taste and aroma. All of them are low in nicotine and not over cased with liqueur or fruit.

Tell me, is the Gen. Douglas MacArthur corn cob model of pipe any good? I've found such pipes amongst grandfather's things.

I am a great fan of the 'Missouri Meerschaum' for casual smoking. It tends to smoke very cool and sweet. Also, for picnics, camping, etc. they're cheap, so if they're broken or lost, you're not out much.
