"...don't even understand  what the purpose of it is"

The impression I got at the N.O.'s I used to suffer through was that it was intended to show (an insincere and superficial)luuuuuv for your fellow parishioners; after all, every word out of father's mouth was something about showing luuuuuuuv and being nice.  In fact, if I remember correctly, that's about all there is to Catholicism; hold hands, show luuuuuuv and be nice (especially to cafeteria Catholics, Muslims, pagans, athiests, and Jews. Extra-nice to Jews, ALWAYS, because they're the only people on the planet who have EVER been mistreated, and if you don't believe it, buddy, I've got some holocaust pictures to show you...)

Deo Gratias for our indult Mass and the good Fathers who say that Mass for us.

Our regular Mass is NO.

As the body of Jesus Christ is present infront of me on the altar I remain kneeling with my head down.  People around me think I am a nutter so they avoid me at the 'peace' sign and leave me alone - IN PEACE!!

What a fine idea!  Maybe I should do more to appear like a "nutter" at Mass!

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true.– Buddha

Note: According to this precept, I find that Buddhism is NOT true.  I have tested and judged many things, and the only Truth I have found is in God's One True Church: The Catholic Church.

Dear Lord, I know I can live by Your Holy Will every moment of my life, because You have given me faith that Your Grace will enable me to.

I love the word! I've been a "nutter" for years. If I'm forced to attend the NO, I simply do what I would at the TLM. I genuflect at the Incarnatus in the Credo, bow at the name of Jesus and make sure I've got my eyes closed and hands clasped in prayer at the "Peace". Oh, yes, and I bob and weave through the lines to make sure I receive from a priest and kneel for Communion!

You have the time to genuflect at the incarnatus during the Credo in a Novus Ordo?

Even with my creaky, arthritic old knees, I manage, but you've got to be prepared!

As much as I dislike the sign of peace (and I'm fortunate to have an NO parish around here where the priest omits it), it's perfectly fine to stand here, as we do for the Pater noster, Libera nos, and sign of peace at the TLM.

I like it. Smile

But do you genuflect at "Et Verbum caro factum est" as you're reading the Last Gospel? ;)

Both the orans posture and the hand holding are the result of poor seminary formation. It shows a paradigm shift from uniting around the unbloody sacrifice of Calvary at the Altar, to exhibiting a "fellowship of the community" with each other. This is one reason that in many, but certainly not all NO Churhes it is more quiet in a bowling alley than in Church before mass.

Thanks and Happy New Year to all

Actually, since I'm not a Priest, I don't use the Last Gospel as part of my Thanksgiving. I kneel, say the Prayers after Low Mass for the conversion of Russia and then the Thanksgiving from the Breviary.
