Apostolic exhortation on Eucharist is "imminent"

Feb. 22, 2007                      (CWNews.com)                 -                                Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) has announced that he will soon release the apostolic exhortation summarizing the work of the Synod on the Eucharist, which concluded its deliberations 16 months ago.

The appearance of the apostolic exhortation is “imminent,” the Holy Father told priests of the Rome diocese, during a traditional early-Lenten meeting in the Hall of Benedictions at the Vatican on Thursday morning.

In June 2006, the bishops who make up the ordinary council of the Synod completed a final text on the previous year's Synod on the Eucharist, to be submitted to the Pope as the basis for his apostolic exhortation.

The Synod of Bishops met in October 2005 to discuss the theme, “The Eucharist: Living Bread for Peace in the World,” with 256 bishops from 118 countries participating in the discussions. In a break from the usual practice, the Synod fathers made public an “unofficial” list of the 50 propositions approved at the conclusion of their deliberations. Ordinarily the propositions remain confidential to be used by the Pope in preparing an apostolic exhortation on the topic of the Synod's deliberations. But Pope Benedict approved the public release of the conclusions.

During his February 22 meeting with priests of Rome, the Pope said that his apostolic exhortation would offer a series of meditations on some of the key points made during the Synod.

Pope Benedict did not mention the motu proprio that he is also expected to release in the near future, allowing broader use of the pre-conciliar Latin liturgy. Several Vatican journalists have suggested that the motu proprio is likely to appear in conjunction with the apostolic exhortation on the Eucharist, although the Holy See has not confirmed that speculation.

Other ages... are prone to faction, and it is our business to inflame them. Any small coterie, bound together by some interest which other men dislike or ignore, tends to develop inside itself a hothouse mutual admiration, and towards the outer world, a great deal of pride and hatred which is entertained without shame because the 'Cause' is its sponsor... Even when the little group exists originally for the Enemy's own purposes, this remains true.... The Church [H]erself is, of course, heavily defended... but subordinate factions within [H]er have often produced admirable results, from the parties of Paul and Apollos at Corinth down...." —The Screwtape Letters; number 7. Ave Maria Uni strikes again.

Fr. Fessio's ego would be most upset, as for Fr. Fessio himself, who knows.

I thought it was Feb. 30 per some members on Angel Queen? Nevertheless, I hope it happens eventually.

I wasn't going to hold my breath but my tongue, or rather, my keyboard.  A month or so ago I got into trouble with somebody here for doubting the Holy Father's words, or was it because of the waffling going on by those who think they are in charge and keep postponing what isn't really going to happen?  Now do I make believers of those who doubted me?

Since I resurrected this thread...

RANT ON:

My intent was NOT to engage in an "I told you so."  That would serve no useful purpose.  Perhaps "FlosCarmeli" has not logged on today to provide any update from his sources... although if there was a reason for a delay, one would'a thunk he'd have heard something before the Feb. 22 deadline.  But I digress...

In my opinion, a self-imposed moratorium on all this "universal indult" speculation should commence.  All it does is get people's hopes UP... only to be crestfallen later.  All it does is mess with people's faith.  Members of the blog-o-gencia should just give it a rest, instead of seemingly wanting to pursue the "you heard it here first" strategy by prognosticating dates for a motu proprio.  "Unnamed Vatican sources..."  blah, blah, blah...

And, since I've used the phrase "universal indult," the former member here with that screen name (and website, to boot) who went on-an-on about Bishop Williamson causing sedevacantism among the faithful... Such irony!  Irony, because all this "the universal indult is coming soon" talk, followed by a whole bunch of nuthin' but a "let down," leads people to sedevacantism, too.

Give it all a rest for a while... shut up and pray.

RANT OFF.

Clearly, it isn't going to happen any time soon.  The only solution is to keep trudging on, stubbornly clinging to tradition, and to drop all this traditionalist in-fighting.  If I've learned anything in life, it's that persistence is ultimately the most important factor.  And we know the truth lies with tradition, so it will be easier for us to persist in the long run.

As long as the number of reactionary bishops far exceeds those who are faithful to Tradition, there will be no motu proprio in the manner we expect, i.e., a universal right for every priest to celebrate the Latin Mass without coercion, threat of banishment, interdict, etc. --  if not the complete return to the TLM as the form of worship Catholics offer to God, as it has been since the Last Supper.  Why the pope has to defer to these bishops and "implore" their cooperation is beyond the imagination of every Catholic this side of heaven.

The time when the ranks of these reactionaries will dwindle to a very few whose voice w ill no longer be heard -- and this will happen through retirement, death, schism, or apostasy.

I guess putting my name in quotes somehow makes me a ghost or something? Yeah... anyway. I never said it would come out. I just said that I had heard this from good people that is all.
