“Just say NO to sex with pro-lifers” posted on professor’s door
By Peter J. Smith

DETROIT, February 15, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Two professors teaching ethics at the University of Detroit Mercy, a “Catholic university in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions,” have made very clear they have no use for the pro-life message of the Catholic Church.

According to Catholic columnist Matt C. Abbott, Drs. Gloria H. Albrecht and Elizabeth Oljar have posted pro-abortion messages on their office doors in the Catholic university, which apparently is quite accommodating to their pro-abortion views.

Dr. Albrecht, an associate Professor of Religion and Ethics who “teaches business and economic ethics, feminist ethics and theology, and women's studies” according to UDM’s website, has an "I am Pro-Choice America" sticker, the current motto of the abortion lobby NARAL, on her name plate. Dr. Albrecht, who holds a S.T.M. (Masters in Sacred Theology) degree from St. Mary's Seminary (Baltimore) and joined the University in 1992, has also signed an endorsement of same-sex “marriage” with the homosexual advocacy group “Freedom to Marry”.

However, Dr. Elizabeth A. Oljar, Assistant Professor and Chair of Philosophy, whose “area of expertise is ethics” nuances her public abortion position with the bumper sticker atop her door: “JUST SAY NO TO SEX WITH PRO-LIFERS”. Dr. Oljar “teaches ethical theory, applied ethics, philosophy of law, political philosophy” and has been with UDM since 1996.

Although UDM claims its “education seeks to integrate the intellectual, spiritual, ethical and social development of our students”, the University’s resource page for its “women’s studies” department shows it contradicts the Catholic Church’s own ethics defending the sanctity of life. In the category “Reproductive Rights and Sexuality, the school’s website lists both Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-choice America among its resources. The website describes NARAL as “the only organization with a proven history and expertise to combat an aggressive anti-choice movement intent on taking away women's rights and freedoms.”

So that's the door to the office of a professor at a Jesuit university.  Apparently it's even worse than when I went to one over 30 years ago.

Here's an idea for college students, including those who don't understand that there is anything wrong with premarital sex:  Just say no to sex with pro-abortionists.  Premarital fornication has always been around but, years ago, an unintended pregnancy caused the couple to marry.  Now, fornication with a pro-abortionist can make you (1) the father of a dead baby or (2) the mother of an unborn baby whom your "boyfriend" is pressuring you to kill.  It's ugly out there.  Even at "Catholic" universities.  Lord, have mercy on us.

Looks just like another university which is Catholic in name only.

Student Confirmed to Have Taken Planned Parenthood 'Clinician' Job

By John-Henry Westen

DETROIT, Michigan, February 21, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The University of Detroit Mercy claims it is a Catholic institution.  Their web page says, "The University of Detroit Mercy (UDM), a Catholic university in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions . . . seeks to integrate the intellectual, spiritual, ethical and social development of our students." (http://www.udmercy.edu/mission/index.htm )

Nevertheless, the same "Catholic" University is encouraging its student's to work with abortion agencies such as Planned Parenthood.  Their career suggestions have not gone unnoticed and a local Planned Parenthood branch is boasting of having hired a UDM student.

The "Career Education Center" UDM website lists Planned Parenthood as a career opportunity for students.  Pointing to the website for Planned Parenthood, the UDM career website suggests that Planned Parenthood "Lists dozens of clinical and non-clinical positions at Planned Parenthood clinics and similar organizations." (see: http://www.udmercy.edu/cecc/diverse.htm )

Planned Parenthood is the leading abortion provider in the United States.  In 2005, the organization ended the lives of more than 255,015 children by surgical abortion alone. That number does not include the vast number of deaths caused by Planned Parenthood's sale of chemical abortion drugs, the morning after pill and abortifacient contraceptives.

The local Planned Parenthood branch boasted in their Winter 2005 newsletter that it had just hired a UDM graduate.  Planned Parenthood of East Central Michigan welcomed its new staff member Carol Sodman-Elliott who according to the newsletter works as a "clinician".  "She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Detroit-Mercy," says the publication 'Choice News'.  The newsletter adds: "Carol considers herself 'terribly pro-choice'".

The UDM President - a Jesuit priest - Rev. Gerard L. Stockhausen, does not seem overly concerned by the Catholic University's ties to the largest abortion provider in the US.  Nearly a year ago LifeSiteNews.com and Catholic World News reported that a Catholic society dedicated to ensuring fidelity at Catholic colleges pointed out that UDM was linking to Planned Parenthood on the UDM website.  (http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2006/mar/060317a.html )

Now, in addition to links to Planned Parenthood, the Catholic university's website links to the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL).

The UDM Women's Studies web page lists under "Professional Associations" Planned Parenthood, which UDM describes as the "Best known pro-choice organization in the U.S.".  The web page also links to the pro-abortion group National Organization for Women (NOW) which recently failed in its decade long attempt to have pro-life activism outlawed under racketeering laws. (see http://research.udmercy.edu/academic/resources.php?navID=2&a... )

In addition, the Women's Studies page on 'Reproductive Rights and Sexuality' links to "NARAL Pro-Choice America". (http://research.udmercy.edu/academic/resources.php?disciplin... )

LifeSiteNews.com reported last week that two UDM professors have boldly placed stickers on their offices doors indicating their support for abortion. (http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2007/feb/07021501.html )

OMG, you mean there is heterodoxy taught at a Catholic university?

Why I never.....

Now what would really be a shock is to to find a Catholic university that taught strict orthodoxy.... that'd be a news story.
