The statistical study done is extremely discouraging, since people easily fall prey to such attacks. The fact that a woman named Maria and a man named Joseph had Children, including Jose, Judas, James, Jesus, Simon, Miriam, Solame and that Miramne and Jesus had a child named Judah is very disconcerting. However, as was mentioned it is probably a forgery. It is the kind of thing that people want to find and therefore is the kind of thing people will find. For those who have any specialisation in such studies (if any are indeed reading this, which I doubt) please take a look at the Tomb Evidence. This is the supposed evidence supporting the claim, and includes images, maps, and other such stuff. I would take it more seriously, because if it becomes widely accepted by the archeological community the faith of billions could be in jeopardy, which is not a positive thing. To just sit back and say that it will pass is never a good response and it would be better to take an initiative and try to denounce it. I hope some very intelligent Catholic archeologists get started quickly, as well as historians, philologists and the like. It is important that we not allow the snares of the enemy to prevail.

That's true. It doesn't matter how much hard evidence or clear arguments you have in front of you, if you want to believe something, you will. That goes all the way back to the Greek poets. It is a matter of the will, not the intellect.

So where are the multi-millionaire Catholics to finance media blitzes in our favor? Is Mel Gibson all alone?

       When my Islamic professor came in today and told the class this the first thing that came to my mind was Divinci Code Pt.II.

 

       Make no bones about it, this is big. If it is proven, I will be the first to abandon Christianity. As S. Paul said himself, if the physical, historical and actual Resurrection of Jesus never happened, then Christians are idiots and the most pathetic of mankind. It is for this reason why skeptics down through the ages have aimed their biggest guns at the Resurrection. Of course I believe this to be a total hoax, drummed-up to get some television ratings. It will come to nothing.

 

       Everything I have thus read really is shaky at best. As biblical scholars will point out, 50% of people in ancient Israel were named Jesus, Mary or Joseph. As for DNA, they can just forget about that as one needs something to compare DNA to (eg: Hair, skin cells, etc).

 

       One final point to consider. One-hundred years ago the all-knowing archeologist's laughed at the Bible, for it mentioned several civilizations which were thought never to have existed. Now in 2007, when those imaginary civilizations actually were discovered, no one is laughing. I suspect that this will end the same way.

       If Christ did not rise from the grave, both would de facto just be ridiculous forgeries. Both the miracles of the Blessed Sacrament and the Shroud owe their validity to the historical and physical Resurrection of Christ.

This is going to be the seal on the faith of many an atheist. 

 

I am curious as to why this is not getting more media attention. The only people who seem to have noticed are believers. That worries me too. Sometimes big events that change things start out that way. They are "out there" for a little bit before everyone starts to notice. Sunday will be the big day.

 

I have watched over the last 10-15 years how television became the authoritative source for everything for most people. Some of the most intelligent people I know accept whatever appears on the History Channel and the Discovery channel is just as influential. (I guess that means their intelligence has deteriorated.) Over this same period I have eliminated television from my life.

 

This film and the book will hurt marginal believers and cliches like "well they didn't have any faith inthe first case" don't make me feel any better about it. 

 

Do not underestimate this.
