I respect your opinion, and hope you respect mine. As I see it the man drips hatred. Not my idea of Catholic values, thanks.
Edited to add: and, other than the fact that he doesn't like it, the only thing about the play I know from his article is its title.
Hatred of what? Probably the gay lifestyle and the immorality inherent in Hollywood, but of people? I don't see that in the least. EDIT: That last statement, I can't defend either: it was over the top.

Hatred of what?
Jews, Gays, Blacks and anybody who doesn't see the world his way. That about covers it.

He makes a lot of derogatory statements against infidels and homosexuals, sure, but against blacks? Prove it. His demeaning language doesn't necessarily mean anything, although it is quite improper.

but against blacks? Prove it. "If someone tells me that there's a statue of Martin Luther King with an erection receiving oral sex, I don't need to see it." If you don't think so, substitute "Jesus" for "Martin Luther King" in the sentence, and ask yourself if you would be offended. Back in the old neighborhood, there was something we would say to kids like Donohue: "You kiss your mother with that mouth?" Well he may be a bigger kid, but the question still applies. Foul. Just foul. And no amount of excuse-making will make it OK.

If only he didn't add in sexual perversions. You're quite right about him not being the appropriate spokesman concerning anti-Catholic plays, movies, etc.

Just foul. And no amount of excuse-making will make it OK. You think maybe he was referring to this? Brooklyn, NY - At the Brooklyn Museum of Art, a display featuring contemporary black photographers includes the color photo "Yo Mama's Last Supper" by Renee Cox. The photograph shows the artist appearing in full frontal nudity as Christ in the Last Supper. In the fall of 1999, the Brooklyn Museum of Art had displayed in its "Sensation" exhibit a dung-splattered Virgin Mary surrounded by pornographic images. Cox explained her work as aimed at the Catholic Church, blaming the Church for slavery. On several past occasions Cox has used Catholic imagery in an offensive manner. She portrayed a castrated Christ on the Cross and she appeared half naked as the Blessed Mother holding a Christ-like figure in her work, "The Pieta." She also posed as a nun with a naked woman kneeling before her in prayer. Catholic League president William Donohue debated Cox at the First Amendment Center in New York, asking if she would object to an offensive portrait of Martin Luther King, Jr. displayed in a public library during Black History Month. She took great umbrage at his mere suggestion. Joining the critique of Cox and the Brooklyn Museum were Edward Cardinal Egan of New York and New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. So Martin Luther King, Jr, is sacrosanct but Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is not? You would rather speak up for blasphemers?

I have no idea. I didn't speak up on behalf of blasphemy. I spoke out against what I see as bad - nay, inexcusable - behaviour.

It is indeed wrong to stoop to the level of the persons doing the anti-Catholic attacks. Donahue shouldn't have stooped to such.

I'll give you several This same guy came up with this idea of the gay gene. I remember when that conversation was going on. Gays were all of a sudden worrying if people would start aborting kids when they found out the DNA suggested the kid might be gay or God forbid, we'd run out of little gay kids, so all of a sudden, they became pro-life. [MSNBC, Scarborough Country, 12/14/04] Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. It's not a secret, okay? And I'm not afraid to say it. ... Hollywood likes anal sex. They like to see the public square without nativity scenes. I like families. I like children. [MSNBC, Scarborough Country, 12/8/04] I don't know what about -- the queer-bashing is all about. I'm pretty good about picking out who queers are and I didn't see any in the movie. I'm usually pretty good at that. [MSNBC, Scarborough Country, 3/12/04] And the all time winner, as quoted in Variety
"If someone tells me that there's a statue of Martin Luther King with an erection receiving oral sex, I don't need to see it." Now there's a gentleman. There's the guy I want for my spokesman - not!
Is this how Jesus would speak? I don't think so. Even when, in the Gospels, He is angry, he is never foul and never hateful. That is the example we should follow. And as to the play, without having seen it or read the script myself, I wouldn't presume to pass judgment on it. And what the U said about the panel was that panelists weren't picked on the basis of religion. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, nor is there any indicator that Catholics were denied permission to attend or ask questions of the panelists. So, while the play may (or may not be) offensive, there's nothing in this article upon which I could responsibly reach that conclusion.
I'd like to see links for the above quotes so I can read them in context.

The Variety issue was January 22 of this year. I don't know if Scarborough has all his transcripts on line. I saved these from an email I wrote some time ago, but I'm afraid I didn't have links in the email. The dates to the Scarborough transcripts are there, however. Context or no context, if that talk came out of my kid's mouth, he'd be burping bubbles for a week.
