I didn't see the movie, but I read the book, and I won't apologize for that. Why? Because I think it's stupid to trash a book you've never read. I wanted to be able to discuss it intelligently if need be.

Were you talking to me, Rosamund? Because I have no problem with anyone reading it from a critical standpoint.

And, aquinas, a book doesn't have to be on the Index to have the obligation to not read it: the EoC sheet in the confessional line at my church says "have you read anything dangerous to your faith?". That tells me I shouldn't read it.

Are you telling me that you saw the movie? how could you?

My dear catholicmilkman, I did see the movie b/c I wanted to see what all the fuss and bother, Sturm und Drang, was about. I was not yet Catholic and I had not heard that it was considered to be sin to see it.

I would not have watched it as a Catholic, knowing it was prohibited. Duh!
What do you take me for? Grrrrrr.......................

Anyway, I am here to tell you it was LAME.  Ask my atheist secular humanist son in law or my Buddhist Platonist son if you don't believe me. (Hey and pray for 'em while you're at it)  It wasn't that powerful, it was just stoooopid.

But I can see why it is prohibited. It is a temptation for the weak minded and for women especially  it can be a temptation to all sorts of unsavory sins.

Peace...

NewCatholic, I was only joking really. I'm just not one who could take it, I'd probably get angry.
