There are just a few things I'd like to say (well actually there a lot of things I'd like to say, but they all involve words not allowed on the forum)

strict feeding schedules for have been linked to Failure to Thrive in babies.

if you would like to know the truth about the history of formula feeding, check out the book Milk, Money, and Madness.

most of the little kids I see at Mass are very well behaved, including my own.  Somehow I manage to nurse the baby and still believe in discipline.  Isn't that amazing?

For NathanSoc and any future children he may father.

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true.– Buddha

Note: According to this precept, I find that Buddhism is NOT true.  I have tested and judged many things, and the only Truth I have found is in God's One True Church: The Catholic Church.

Dear Lord, I know I can live by Your Holy Will every moment of my life, because You have given me faith that Your Grace will enable me to.

In fact, most mothers here were themselves probably fed mainly formula when they were born. Certainly their mothers were.

You had me going until you got here. No traditionalist is going miss the glaring fact that even if his mommy and his mommy's mommy were fed formula, his mommy's mommy's mommy definitely wasn't. And of course there's this.

Here we have a case of an anonymous, bored single man getting a kick out of getting a bunch of mothers riled up. Come on, you've had your laugh, now apologize. Surely you are not truly this asinine.

Sure you're not an Aussie ?  You certainly look and sound like one.

If I fully respond to this , I'll get banned.
Let me just say that you are extremely misinformed, Nathan. You sound more like a fundamentalist puritan in this matter rather than a Catholic. And this "let them know who's boss" by denying them sustenance when they need it is a load. It sound like you've been reading things by the Pearls and other fundamentalist extremists. Get some good Catholic literature on parenting...I think you'll be surprised how much it agrees with us silly "earth-mothers".

MathanSOC,

(I'm deleting my original comments because they were not Christian.)

Sir, you have spoken terrible things against these good women. They are NOT neo-pagans of any sort. In saying that, you are saying these mothers who breastfeed descretely in Church are heathans.

I feel very sorry for you. I think we should all pray to the Blessed Mother for Nathan SOC

(Adding this) You know, I have a book here on my shelf that was given to my great grandparents by their priest when they got married in 1912. It is all about the Catholic idea of marriage. While it doesn't address the issue of breastfeeding in church, it is clear from reading it that NOT nursing her own children is a trendy deplorable practice of rich women which good Catholics should eschew. There are other things in the older Catholic literature that are pro-breastfeeding but I must go to the airport now. Perhaps you could look into the issue yourself.

which is why it is impossible to take this thread with even a modicum of seriousness.

Fortunately, we take Trolls just as seriously as you take this thread.

Personally I find the best way to treat our Earth-mothers here is the same way one treats uppity teens who demand their own "divine right" to wear the latest "home-boy" street-cred clothes to mass.

Hey! Less of the "old Troll" remarks, if you don't mind Ms Leigh. How rude!

I'm only 47.

Middle-Aged Troll thank you very much!!!

I'm still waiting for someone to refute my claim that public breastfeeding in mass today is essentially nothing more than a fashion statement.

Perhaps after the temper tantrums have subsided it will come.

Patience is a virtue.
