Recently I completed a Medical Assistant training Program.  I wanted experience in venipuncture.  The clink where I did my internship did not provide much oportunity for practice.  To complete the training I had to successfully perform 10 venipunctures to on a fake arm, one on a finger stick (as used for diabetics).  This left me to complete seven actual venipunctures.  Two were done on other students in my class which left me five to performe during my 3 month internship.  Out of six tries I was successful at three.  I had to complete two more venipunctures to pass the course.  The Medical Assistant who was training me during my internship had me perform two venipunctures on myself which I had no problem with.  I am thin and my veins are very visible.  So drawing my own blood is easy.  I desperately need a job and tomorrow I am interviewing for a position which is almost exclusively venipunctures.  It is for an organization call CNS trials network.  CNS trials network does studies and provides drug treatment for depression schizophrenia Alzheimer and tother mental disorders.  I was a Licensed Psychiatric Technicians for a number of years and I have all of the qualifications for this job.  How can I explain my lack of experience with venipunctures and that half the people that you drew blood on it went everywhere except through the needle and into the evacuation tube?  Prayers are welcome.

Remember that if you are not right for the job, it will do neither you or the employer any good, and you'll most likely end up looking for something else.  Don't set yourself up for failure.

So, be honest.  If you don't have the skills yet for this job, you will find another one where you will succeed.  Or maybe if they like you a lot plus your work experience, they will give you some practice time with another person to bring you up to speed.

Prayers for your job interview tomorrow. The truth will always be the best in the long run (and the short) Tell them about all your relevant experience, and why you want the job.

Honesty is the best policy.  An I have to go for this interview tomorrow.  If I get this position I will only need 57 venipunctures to qualify for certification for a phlebotmist.  Which could really land me a decent paying job.  Two reason I went into this position is that doctor's offices are always closed on Sunday, Christmas Eve and day, New Years eve and Day so I will never have to miss Mass on these important days and also, I am interested in Hematology.  I just lack experience.  If I get the job I will have to pray and ask you to pray for me that God will steady my hand and I will be successful in my new career.

Thanks everyone for your prayers regarding my job interview.  The company that I interviews with is called CNS Network.  They research new drugs, called smart drugs for psychiatric patients.  It went great for the most part.  I do have a lot of experience working win the health care professions and a number of years experience working with Psych Patients.  I give a phenomenal interview.  I mean I was really impressive.  I had all the answers.  The one drawback I was told was my lack of experience with venipuncture.  I was comfortable and confident. I looked good (by that I mean to say I looked good for me.)  I did my research.  In addition I believe I was the only applicant that brought a portfolio with me.   My portfolio was also very very good and I know it.  What director said was that they were going to interview about 15 people in total and that call back three or four to test their abilities at venipuncture.  I played off like I know what I was doing in spite of my limited experience.   The one think that kind of made me uncomfortable was almost every patient in the waiting area, (about ten of them out of 12) were very heavyset back people.  It can be very difficult to locate an appropriate vein on heavyset people.  Also, It is hard to see a vein because of their dark skin.  That is not an issue that you can use for a defense in not hitting the vein because actually it is something that you need to do almost exclusive by pupation of the site.  These are just my observations and it does not in any way mean that I will be called back.  However, If God wants me to, have this job I will have it.  I hope he does want me to have it because it is the experience that I need.  Thanks again for your prayers.

Thats great. Any possibility for you to practice some more if you get called to do some testing? Could you e.g try on animal (dead) veins?
