A 4.0 would be for an A.  Wouldn't an A- be something like 3.75?

Yes, usually less than a 4.0.  I think 3.75 would be the likely GPA, as Introibo said.  If you really want to know, contact your school. Congratulations on the great grade.

Hey, I've talked to students who say they have greater than a 4.0 average.  How does that work? Of course, this is not something I ever had to worry about.

It doesn't make sense, because 4.0 is 100% which means that theoretically you know 100% of the subject matter - perfection. I guess greater than 4.0 means you got greater than 100, which means you know more than is necessary to achieve perfection in the course.  But then the knowledge attained is beyond the scope of the course, isn't it? Can anyone explain this?

(Sorry for the diversion, it just came to me, and I have been curious about this.  I didn't want to ask the student who had greater than a 4.0. or the proud parents. I'm certain it's quite an achievement, but I still don't understand it.)

Our final grades do not have + or -. An A- is an A, a B+ is a B, etc.

It should say on your transcript. You should be able to check it through student services. Can you just look online for it?

In high school, honors classes carry a higher weight.

It varies by school.  At my undergraduate school, an A- was a 3.67, at my current school 3.7.  My undergrad school changed policies two years after I started - originally, both an A and an A+ were a 4.0, but later an A+ was a 4.33.

Thanks
My final grade was A- or 91 percent.  I had on the cover letter of my resume that my GPA for this course was 3.1.  A GPA of 4.0 or 3.7 looks much better.  I tried looking up on line what the GPA might be and got so many results.  3.7 - 4.9 looks so much better.
Merci
