It is almost ten years since Diana, Princess of Wales, died.  That went by fast didn't it?  Her sons are beautiful and very evocative of their mother.  What did you think of her?  Wasn't the reaction to her death remarkable?  The eulogy given by her brother in the Abbey was almost shocking.  And what of feckless Charles and the third party in the marriage, Camilla?  Why does any of this matter?  Good gossip stuff.  Have you seen, "The Queen"?  Outstanding film. I don't know.  I am no lover of the English but I liked her.  I think she was alot smarter than we thought...

Haven't seen the film.

As an English woman, for what it's worth, I think the P o W, his lover and his wife were every bit as bad as each other.

I loathed the prurience of the press and the public, loathed the manipulated 'out-pouring of grief' that was the funeral, thought her brother was misguided in his eulogy (some things are best left for private), I really can't understand and can't stand the Cult of Diana at all. And whatever you read in the press, I'm really not the only one.

The best thing the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha could do would be to keep themselves to themselves. Especially Di's kids.

I have the greatest respect for the Queen who I believe to be woman of faith, integrity, and commitment, although I'll never be buying a commemorative plate

I try to be a good monarchist but I just really have trouble caring about the modern Windsor's.

Didn't Mother Teresa pass right around the same time?  Do any of you remember the media referring to both of them (especially Di) as saints?  I thought the comparison was sort of funny because the contrast was so huge.  Yes, the ten years have flown by.

I remembered it all very well Stephen. At the time I was struck by what I call "mob grief". You have heard the term "mob psychology"? wherein people who would not think of behaving in such a way individually suddenly behave the same way as the mob they see. People saw others publicaly grieving, leaving flowers and singing songs and loitering at the palace and joined in like lemmings. The more the media commented on it the more the follower types joined in. The cult of celebrity was in high gear and fed off of itself. The crass media allows for that.

Diana was beautiful, rich and a princess. A fairytale icon come to life. Too bad for her and her sons she was also an airhead.

I fail to understand the cult behind her.  She had been seeing other men even before her divorce, was dating this guy, who knows what else......who cares?

English monarchy=big bore

When she embraced the patient's suffering from aids, she undoubtedly did a Christian act.  I remember her saying that she knew "how to give love".  Did you see her with children?  She was not acting.  Also she was lovely with the retarded.   There is no need to be so hard on her.  Anyway, aren't the Spencers more ligit than the Krauts there now?

I think Diana died a week before Mother Teresa.  I do remember thinking at the time, that the two women had met, and what odds they would have given for Diana being dead before Mother Teresa.

Whatever's for you won't go by you, as they say here

I remember some discussion at the time of her wedding, that she actually had a higher concentration of Royal Blood than the Prince of Wales. Ironic, eh?
