I'm a Chevy man myself. I've had 4 Chevys and 1 Mercury from 15 till 28. My current one is a 90 model truck, wore slap out, and I've been building an engine for it for the last 4 years. Ain't quite got it finished yet.

(Yes, I am a mechanic) ;)

But I catch a lot of flak over this issue from people in my business. People ask me why I don't have a gnarly hotrod or something ultra slick. Or worse yet, why don't I loose some of my money and buy the newest hotrod or shagwagon. Might be in the high performance automotive business, but that isn't me. I'm just a country boy. I dunno. People seem to have their priorities 180 out.

Give me a U.S. made car, preferably from the 60s or 70s, with the largest V8 engine available. Basically, Al Gore's worst nightmare. That's a car you drive -- it doesn't drive itself like the newer ones. Nothing like banging through the gears with your rear planted in the seat!

I wouldn't describe it as Al Gore's worst nightmare, after all he lives his life in complete disregard to what he preaches to his green groupies. He'd probably be perfectly happy with a 1970 Cadillac limousine with the 8.2L engine, but I think that it would be a tad "old" for his tastes. I don't think he appreciates anything related to tradition, save it be keeping his noble perch.

If you can have it  and be detached enough not to shed any tears when someone backs into it, you're probably ok.

Especially if you're not willing to shed any blood over it!

I want this.

I think it would look really sweet with a Swarovski rosary hanging on the rear-view mirror.

My Panzerfaust

And for all you gearheads.  308hp at the wheels.

It not only German, you can make an argument that it's Catholic.

This Porsche was build in Zuffenhausen, a city district of Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttenberg, which is predominately Catholic.

Baden-Wurttemberg is also were the University of Turbingen , where the Holy Father was a chair in dogmatic theology.

See the connections?

Anyway it goes will fast, handles like it on rails, looks cool.  And most importantly, I  built this car before I got married, because there's no way my better half would ever ever ever have allowed me to spend the money I did on it.

The wife wants me to sell this and buy a Honda Odyssey. . .   Hahahaha!  Like that's going to happen.

Just as long as it is safe and an automatic, I'm there.

Vanity can go into almost any material thing really. I had a red Mazda 93'. Wrote it off and nearly myself. Next car will probably be similar. High priced oil makes it harder to have principles about where it is from etc. Who cares as long as it goes.

Hmm... an extended cab Silverado.  2 wheel-drive.  I'm thinking of getting a 4 wheel-drive, 3/4 ton, club-cab Silverado, with the Duramax diesel engine.  It'll pull my boat alot easier plus, I can help my brother pull his toys when we go camping.

As for go-fast duties, I miss my 2-door '80 Chevy Malibu with a 350ci small block, transplanted 4-speed automatic trans, and a 3.73 rear-end.

I must get another and improve it with fuel injection, instead of a carburator, although the 800cfm Quadrajet was nothing to sneeze at and still got decent mileage.  The overdrive tranny helped, I suppose...

A volvo station wagon was always my choice as a Catholic family man.

Then again, I could never afford my choice.
