Brethren,
I was curious if anyone here has conducted any research into the growing pockets of Catholic communities across the country, and if so, what were your findings?

Blessings,

-Davide

There is a growing community in Welwyn, Saskatchewan.

Very small, with a traditional school and chapel.  The cost of living is low, and jobs can be found with a little searching.  The people there are dedicated and sacrificing daily for the further growth of the community.

Now, see if you can find it on the map!

The commuity at Welwyn used to have their own website promoting their project. I can't seem to find it linked from anywhere. Does anyone know the site address?

It was one of my 'guilty-pleasures' to steal a few minutes each day from my work to day-dream about moving there and starting a new life....

Though I know the reality of cold Saskatchewan winters!

Look for one adjacent to an orthodox Catholic monastery or college and attach yourself informally to that community. I've heard good things about Clear Creek, OK, for example.

There are several good parishes in the Northern VA area, and Christendom College is there also, in Front Royal. In California, you can choose Santa Paula, Ojai or Ventura, if you can afford it (all near TLMs and Thomas Aquinas College), or San Juan Capistrano.

I live in the St. Louis archdiocese, which has its great archbishop but most parishes are mediocre at best. The TLM is spreading here, though slowly.

Welwyn, Saskatchewan, Canada

Canada's Village of Welwyn in Saskatchewan
Has Become a Small Community of Traditional Catholics

The Village of Welwyn, Saskatchewan, has become the destination of choice for a small group of families following traditional Catholicism. In the last few years, several families have moved from all over Canada to this community, located 30 kilometres north of the Trans-Canada Highway near the Manitoba boundary. The families have concluded that the Second Vatican Council waters down the Church's teachings and have come together to raise their children. They bought and renovated an old hall, which now serves as their church, where traditional Catholic services are conducted in Latin by a priest who travels from Winnipeg every second weekend. They also operate their own private school.

The families have restored older houses and built new ones. They have also brought forty children into the village of 146, which had no children before. Welwyn is between Rocanville and its nearby potash mine, and Moosomin. The families are striving to become self-sufficient, raising their own livestock and planting large gardens. [Source: Canada]

Wow!  It's neat that you found that blurb on Welwyn!

Saskatchewan winters aren't all bad.  The sun shines most of the time, and so inside a warm and toasty house with the sun streaming in...well, it's good for the soul!  Besides, 40 below just makes you feel alive! My kids delivered news papers in it last year and only came home with white patches twice.  They were like little men, and toughened up quite nicely (with no permanent damage I might add, and it was a lovely lesson in stepping outside to assess the cold before heading out).

We're elsewhere on the Canadian prairie, but it is a wonderful life out here.  Just not for those who wish to remain tender!  What a blessing for those who can send the kids to a truly Catholic school, under the direction of a real Traditional priest.

I second Front Royal, Virginia, in fact I hope to be moving there in a couple of years. I love the parish there, it has a weekly Indult, around the clock Adoration, except for weekends, and lots of babies and children and many homeschoolers.
It is at the foot of the Skyline Drive so there is hiking and family recreation close by. If you long for the big city, Washington, DC is about 70 miles away.

Have you looked into the Batesville/Oldenburg/Brookville, Indiana area?  There is a church there (Ss Philomena & Cecilia Catholic Church - www.spcfssp.org) run entirely by the FSSP.  It's a small country church with about 65 families but we are growing.  All of the families home school and we have a fantastic Catholic community/culture.  We have a very active parish life as well.

Here's an article that may be of interest (Restoration of the Sacred): http://uvcarmel.wordpress.com/category/local-news/

At least two families (and hopefully a third) have decided to make Ss Philomena & Cecilia their home after crossing the US looking for a great place to raise their family.
