I had no idea there were so many Kantian "traditionalists". It's insane bullcrap to say that man and woman are the same, or equal or anything else like that.
Donum, please answer these simple question: are women human?
Just because women don't have the same accidents (external appearances) as men doesn't mean they don't have the same human nature. I suggestion you read a book on St. Joan of Arc and other Saint women.

I'm just saying that generally I'd rather hear about my wife's joys and needs rather than intellectual concepts.

So, you want a wife appreciably less intelligent than yourself, to share only her fluffy happy stuff and those 'needs' with you - presumably which you previously approved as valid and appropriate for a mere woman to express.

So tell me, what's she going to be getting out of this one-sided (well I was going to say 'relationship' but that doesn't seem the right word, okay, yes, we'll go with 'acquaintance') acquaintance?

At times like these I like to turn to Jane Austen, of whom  I am inordinately fond, who usually puts things better than anyone:
"It is happy for you that you possess the talent of flattering with delicacy. May I ask whether these pleasing attentions proceed from the impulse of the moment, or are they the result of previous study?"

Or won't you answer cos I'm just a girly?

Seriously, man, grow a pair.

Oh dear, how juvenile...

i don't care if my wife is an intellectual. even if she were an intellectual, i'd rather her keep it in her head.  i just want her sweet, soft, simple, and submissive.
Maybe it would be better for you to spend the next 10 years discerning what God wants for you.  People who make up silly lists of what they want are definitely not mature enough for marriage.  They need a good mother to straighten them out.

I hope my boys marry modern versions of Isabella of Spain.  Women need spines more than ever these days: guts to make the neighbor turn down a stereo when hubby isn't home, guts to deal with doctors, people with potty mouths at the grocery store, etc...etc...etc...

Done feeding trolls. Smile

I can just imagine donumabdeo sitting across from his wife at the dining table communicating in grunts and hand gestures, lest she accidentally display some sign of intelligent thought...

I couldn't agree more with you that women need spines.  I can't bear the thought of being stuck with a spineless woman.  I very much desire a woman of virtue, I just have no desire to discuss intellectual matters with a woman.

How would you teach the faith to your children together then?

Ok, fair enough, there are times when it is necessary for another end.  I do need to know that my wife has an understanding of the faith before I marry her or allow her to speak about God with my kids. When teaching my kids the faith after they reach the age of reason, I will teach the children and my wife may sit beside me silently.  How's that?

Wow, what a catch! "Allow" your wife to speak to your children about God. (Wouldn't they be her children too or do you plan on "allowing" her to give birth to them too?)

And people wonder why Carole was concerned about her daughter finding a suitable Catholic man...

What about math, grammar, latin, reading, history, science, etc? Even if they go to school, most of what they learn will be from their mother since the schools do very little teaching these days. Are you going to quit your job so that you have enough time to teach them all the things they need to learn, or do you want them to be vapid airheads like your dear wife?

"...we ought to get back to the dimension of the sacred in the liturgy.  The liturgy is not a festivity; it is not a meeting for the purpose of having a good time. It is of no importance that the parish priest has cudgeled his brains to come up with suggestive ideas or imaginative novelties. The liturgy is what makes the Thrice-Holy God present amongst us; it is the burning bush; it is the Alliance of God with man in Jesus Christ, Who has died and risen again...." ~ Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger
