I'm a mom, homeschooler, with kids that [thankfully] love the TLM, especially my college-aged son. We attend Mass at a NO Mass 30 minutes away instead of at our 5 minutes away parish, because they, my kids, can't stand the modern "ambience" there. It recently got worse with the addition of a band right next to the altar.

In reading the website, I understood that  the webmaster [Vox Clamantis] was faithful to the present Pope and the Magisterium etc. but advocated a return to the TLM.  So....what do the members of this forum advocate?  Is it a rejection of Vat. II? or... well, I'd like to understand.

G'day there! Welcome to Eaters! Tip o' the hat
If I may, Vox.
It's not a rejection of Vat II but a rejection of the so called 'spirit of Vat II', no doubt a term you've heard about hence the band at your local NO Mass and other things that make you cringe.

From the 'about this site' page

Quote from: Fish Eaters
We believe Vatican II was a valid, pastoral Ecumenical Council convoked and approbated by true Popes. We believe the documents from the Council were badly and ambiguously written and that said documents need to be interpreted only in light of tradition instead of -- as is all too often the case now -- by the media and those with a revolutionary agenda.

Hope that helps.
Good to hear your kids love the TLM, do the boys serve? We need more servers!!

Hello and Welcome! Marty said what I was going to say this morning (but got sidetracked).

The "spirit" of Vatican II needs to be exorcised!

Thanks be to God--and welcome!

Well ... you'll probably see some big differences of opinion on that point. Some (like me) advocate the acceptance of Vatican II as entirely consistent with earlier Catholic teaching, when both are rightly understood (i.e., when the bogus "Spirit of Vatican II" has been wholly banished from the mind). Others do not (to say the least). This forum is the best I know of on the Internet for getting both sides (or all sides, if there are more than two) of this and related disputed questions.

Blessings,

Don McMaster

Thank you all so much for your replies and welcome!  I look forward to learning much here.

My sons don't serve.  When the oldest was the right age, we were concerned a little by the scandal [husband said 'no way'].  My son also didn't want to get up at 5 am. My other son doesn't serve because the parish we are in now is a bit too "hip" as I mentioned earlier.  Though he doesn't serve, he is very very interested in all things Catholic, and asks me mind-bending questions daily.  He keeps me busy looking stuff up.  I hope you all can help me answer some of these! It makes me realize how badly educated I was in regards to the Faith in all my Catholic schooling.

I especially will be glad to learn what it actually says in the Vatican II docs. and the "spirit" that has distorted these.

God bless you all.
