An interesting story:  I've heard it told that when the SSPX folks acquired the property from the Archdiocese, they formed a purchasing committee/agency which called itself something like "Ecumenical Outreach Services" (name completely made up).

I've also heard that when the Archbishop found AFTER the property had been sold to SSPX, he was furious.

Of course, I wouldn't want to spread any untrue gossip.

When the Society bought St Vincent de Paul in KC, they had a protestant pastor act as a go between!

I've never been into St. Francis de Sales, but I know the organist (who is brilliant by all accounts, a fellow-freshman at Webster) and it's just around the block from my own St. Mary's Assumption (SSPX). My sisters went there for a baptism (I was out of town then) and said it's awesome.
Hey, how's Fr. Soos doing? St. Mary's Assumption is beautiful in it's own right (or rite, LOL-no pun intended).

Same as ever.... humorous, cheerful, and working hard... handling a big parish like ours is no small feat and I admire him for managing it! Smile

I've heard this story also and it is true.  A lot of traditionalist groups have to do this because the Novus Ordo Archdiocese would sell the property to be used by Protestants or worse, to be turned into a restaurant, bar, or nightclub, before they would ever sell it to Traditional Roman Catholics!

I've also heard a rumor though that St. Pius X has acquired some property in Northern Kentucky and plans on moving their church their in the future.

Are they going to sell their property in Cincy after this church is built?  How then would that be good for the people in Cincy who have to drive out in the middle of nowhere to get to this new church?

Oh, I hope they don't move it! I've been to St. Pius X once and I remember it's a beautiful church that would be a shame to lose. Setting up a new parish would be awesome though....

I am constantly floored by how many Tradtional Catholics live in or near Cincinnati.

It must be that good Kentucky moonshine.

Northern Kentucky is not the "middle of nowhere"--it's always been a part of the metropolitan area.  In fact, over the last 10 years or so, it's the "place to be."

I think a lot of parishioners come from Northern Kentucky to Northside.  Many others, live on the I-275 loop, so it would actually be more convenient for them.  I doubt if they'll sell the property.

Lastly, the priest who says Mass at SSPX Northside, travels between Louisville and Cincy, so it'll make it less of a hassle for him, saving him about 25 minutes in commute (Louisville is about 80 minutes from N. Ky, and 105 minutes from Northside).

I'll attest to this.  When I was in Cincinnati in 2006 (to see a Reds-Pirates game. ), I stayed on the Kentucky side of the river.  It was the nicest dump I've ever stayed in.  May I suggest the Covington EconoLodge to any Nati-bound travelers?

I don't know.  I know he recently had some surgery.
