That made me laugh out loud because at the very same FHC that I described above, the priest (and pastor) specifically said that cameras were not to be used during the Mass.

So what did the people do? They totally ignored him, of course, and let loose with a barrage of clicks and flashes. Some people even manned the center aisle snapping pics as their kids received the Host.

Ugh, how awful. Between the cameras flashing and the cell phones ringing, I don't know which I despise more. It's just inexcusable.

Why would cameras be banned at Mass or especially First Holy Communion?

That sounds odd...

Videotaping is allowed, but I think cameras with flashes and people running about trying to get the perfect shot is too distracting and disruptive.. even by Novus Ordo standards.  There are plenty of times for pictures before and after the Mass. When I was a kid, and when my kids were kids, we had pictures taken with the family and also the whole class in front of the altar, after the Mass. We also had pictures of the procession going into church, before Mass began. But there are no photos of the First Communion itself, or confirmation for that matter.

Especially considering the show-off atmosphere of the Novus Ordo services. In fact, they should be recording those circuses all the time!

Hebrews 7:24-26

 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
