1. Ask for the intercession of St. Anthony, "white lily of purity," which helps.
2. A friend had the intercession of St. Therese of Lisieux, which worked wonders.
3. When you go to bed, whether or not you haven't already, pray the Rosary. If you fear sleep, ask you Guardian Angel to complete your prayers for you.
4. If you slip, though embarrassing, make reparation through the Blessed Mother.
5. Finally, consider whether or not this is "willful" sin, or "habitual sin" where full consent of the will is compromised (and therefore, venial, not mortal).
6. Find a good spiritual director for (#5 especially) above.

Sadly modern-day society doesn't help much with this, as we're constantly bombarded with libidinous images (be it in the media, or the lack of modesty, etc) or we hear that "to 'pleasure' yourself is natural".

So very, very true....alot can be said for the solitary life if that is your calling. History sure does repeat itself because the early desert fathers escaped from the contemporary society of that time due to the spiritually crushing effect it had on souls like today. They also endured temptations, not only before their trials in the desert but during their whole life in the desert. Their only weapons were day & night praying and fasting.

Dear sursumcorda, I understand the problem, I really do. In my struggle, one of the best things has been frequent Confession with a Traditional priest. In JMJ + kingstowngalway

5. Finally, consider whether or not this is "willful" sin, or "habitual sin" where full consent of the will is compromised (and therefore, venial, not mortal). What? It's not venial, if you know it's mortal. That's called VICE not venial sin. Sins against purity are always mortal.

Don't forget St. Maria Goretti and St. Dominic Savio, too... they will help you. Mary Most Pure, protect him!

That's called VICE not venial sin. Sins against purity are always mortal. I'm of the mind mortal sin MUST have these three components: 1. Grave matter. 2. Knowledge that the offense is "grave matter," and that it is, indeed, an "offense." 2. FULL consent of the will. I think you're confusing "knowledge" and "will." One might "know" (KNOWLEDGE), as you say, it's a "mortal" sin, but the "condition" of mortal depends on presence of the above three components. - Brad

That's what will power's all about right? I sure do wish my will would act entirely upon my consent (or lack thereof).
But honestly, it is best to consider it mortal. If you have a very bad habit of it, and are doubtful.. You may want to ask your priest. Tell him that you frequently fall into "such and such" sin due to habit, and you need to know if you must confess it every time before receiving communion. A good priest will give you different advice depending on your specific situation, and should be able to discern if it is truly a habit(and venial) or mortal. Of course, this doesn't release you from confessing it! Habits can be broken, it takes lots of prayer and effort sometimes.

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true.– Buddha
Note: According to this precept, I find that Buddhism is NOT true. I have tested and judged many things, and the only Truth I have found is in God's One True Church: The Catholic Church.
Dear Lord, I know I can live by Your Holy Will every moment of my life, because You have given me faith that Your Grace will enable me to.

Sexual desire is a fire. If you don't feed it, it dies down, although it never is extinguished, of course. However, if you feed it....
Every action begins with a thought. Nip the thoughts in the bud, and you will have gone a long way to overcoming temptations against purity. Put it in God's hands. Admit that you can't win the battle on your own. And the three Hail Marys morning and evening is a great assistance.
And never become so prideful that you think you've conquered it for good. You haven't. It's a thin line most of us walk and we could fall at any time. Best not to lose sight of that reality.
