Failing to be chaste

Please remember me (and those like me) in your petitions. I am trying to be chaste, but am finding it extremely difficult to kick the habit of masturbation with visuals. I am male, and wanting to some day have a family...I want to be ready for that future, if God desires it.

I know what you are going through, my Catholic brother, I to my perpetual shame and sorrow even to this day have also committed sins against the most precious virtue of purity. Do not fear or despair. A priest once said in a conference the best way to avoid such sins is to say three Hail Marys while kneeling on your knuckles. I would add a brisk run afterwards helps.

Also, should you slip-up, do not give into the sin of presumption ("I've done it once, might as well keep doing so...").

Time in front of the Blessed Sacrament is good at removing those images of pornography which get stuck in the mind.

Lastly, look up some of the works by Mr. Jason Evert. He does a lot of work concerning purity. Pope John Paul also did a considerable amount of work with his "Theology of the Body," if you are needing some intellectual firepower you will find it there.

The actual practice is 3 Hail Mary's in the morning upon awakening, and 3 more before retiring for the night. It is said by St Alphonsus regarding this,(praying to stop sinning) you will either give up sinning, or you will give up praying
