According to the Italian weekly Panorama, the Pope intends to replace the vernacular consecration with the original Latin. This will restore the correct "pro multis" formula to the consecration and place a "verbal veil" over the Sacred Mystery. This seems to be one way in which "mutual enrichment" is taking place between the EF and OF. The Pope is also considering moving the sign of peace to the offertory in order to facilitate proper recollection before Communion:

From Fr. Z:

"Benedict changes the Mass again – a study of the new liturgy entrusted to the Congregation for Divine Worship

The Rite of Mass could change. According to some leaks, Benedict XVI has give the Congregation for Divine Worship the task of studying some modifications in the liturgy. In particular, it is said the Pope intends to reinstate the Latin for the formula of the Eucharistic consecration in Mass in the vernacular, i.e., the one celebrated in different national languages. [This means that in Masses in English, Italian etc., when the priest would get to the two fold consecration, he would switch to LATIN.] The same thing could happen for the [sacramental] formulas of baptism, confirmation, confession and the other sacraments. In addition the sign of peace among the faithful during Mass, which today takes place before the distribution of the Eucharist, could be moved forward (as in the Ambrosian rite) to the offertory in order so as not to disturb the recollection before Communion. [This is something Papa Ratzinger wrote about in one of his books, I forget which.]"

Good one.

Let's not forget the Jews. They've gotta be involved in this somehow.

THEY (the Jews) must be the Masons that insist on getting PAID! Ah, another piece of the puzzle fits in. There's no such thing as a free lunch or a mason!

These changes still won't make it a Catholic mass...

I think this is very good news!  Although, they will probably need to allow for a transition period, as I think that the Latin might be difficult for a lot of the priests to adjust to.  As far as the kiss of peace goes though, that's something I've been praying for for a long time.

I have to say, though: it's a problem that there's someone in the Vatican that's leaking these documents to the secular media...

Aren't they at least an indication that the boat is swinging back on course?

Let's see what the score looks like in one year.

  1. The Motu (which many said would never happen);
  2. Removing the Papal Mass Puppeteer (Marini);
  3. The reassignment of Archbishop Burke (closest thing to the Hammer of Heretics to be found in the USCCB);
  4. Offering Mass ad Orientum;
  5. Distributing Communion kneeling and on the tongue at St. Peters; and
  6. Now, actually repairing some of the major shortcomings of the Novus Ordo.
Y'all just let me know when it's time to show some appreciation for our Holy Father; okay? I'm still only hearing that the grapes aren't sweet enough from the folks stompin' around in the wine press.
