Why do all these scientists feel the need to overstep their bounds and get involved so malevolently in philosophy and religion???

Wasn't it Einstein who said that the problem with our scientists is that they are very "poor philosophers"......?

To defend oneself, one must also be ready to die. There is little such readiness in a society raised in the cult of material well-being. Nothing is left, then, but concessions, attempts to gain time, and betrayal.

I hope he's tenured, otherwise the local Bishop should go have a quiet word with the University's president.

Strange...

After some random link clicking, it seems as though every link on this page works... except the one for "PZ Myers."

Gee, I wonder why that is...

Indeed he is tenured if he's an associate professor.  I'm not sure what that says about the institution's standards judging by the professor's use of the English language.

Pray for him; that would really annoy him (and we would be acting in Christian charity so it's a win-win situation).

Good advice but it's times like this I wish I was Muslim. They know how to handle people like this. Maybe it is time for the church militant to regain some of it's crusader spirit.

This is an outrage!!

Paul Zachary Myers, a professor at the University of Minnesota Morris, has pledged to desecrate the Eucharist. He is responding to what happened recently at the University of Central Florida when a student walked out of Mass with the Host, holding it hostage for several days. Myers was angry at the Catholic League for criticizing the student. His post can be accessed from his faculty page on the university’s website.

Here is an excerpt of his July 8 post, “It’s a Frackin’ Cracker!”:

“Can anyone out there score me some consecrated communion wafers?” Myers continued by saying, “if any of you would be willing to do what it takes to get me some, or even one, and mail it to me, I’ll show you sacrilege, gladly, and with much fanfare. I won’t be tempted to hold it hostage (no, not even if I have a choice between returning the Eucharist and watching Bill Donohue kick the pope in the balls, which would apparently be a more humane act than desecrating a goddamned cracker), but will instead treat it with profound disrespect and heinous cracker abuse, all photographed and presented here on the web.”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:

“The Myers blog can be accessed from the university’s website. The university has a policy statement on this issue which says that the ‘Contents of all electronic pages must be consistent with University of Minnesota policies, local, state and federal laws.’ One of the school’s policies, ‘Code of Conduct,’ says that ‘When dealing with others,’ faculty et al. must be ‘respectful, fair and civil.’ Accordingly, we are contacting the President and the Board of Regents to see what they are going to do about this matter. Because the university is a state institution, we are also contacting the Minnesota legislature.

“It is hard to think of anything more vile than to intentionally desecrate the Body of Christ. We look to those who have oversight responsibility to act quickly and decisively.”

People like this make me sick.  he's a pathetic little punk who thinks because he's got a degree on the wall he can do whatever it is he wants and talk crap on whoever he wants.
Oh well, Christ will take care of him.

Exactly in my experience college professors are worthless scumbags. They are the biggest reason I quit college, that and because it's a waste of money when all you need to do is learn a trade.

People should definitely learn some sort of marketable skill, certainly.  But if you want Catholics to be in leadership positions, then they will need to enter the professions, and that means going to college.

Not necessarily.

First, a true leader is someone who is virtuous and can engender virtue in others. That does not require a college degree or a profession, most of which don't deserve to be called that term anyway.

Secondly, who said we want Catholics in "leadership positions". Most of those require so much sinful activity that I would not wish it on any Catholic. We should want Catholics to save their souls and as many of those around them as possible.

History generally shows that it is when someone in a "leadership position" converts than we see a wholesale conversion of the people. Perhaps, then, the historically best way to convert the world is to pray and work on converting ourselves and our friends and those with whom we have contact.
