Hello everyone, I have been reading these posts and I figured I would put my two cents in. Just some background on myself, I am a U.S. naval officer stationed at Naval Post Graduate School at Monterey,CA, I regularly go to both the TLM and Easter Byzantine Divine Liturgy. I consider myself an ameteur Mariologist and I especially like reading books from St. Louis De Montfort. I just wanted to comment on a few things on this post.
1)Southern Catholic-quick question for you, you keep insisting that luigi is quoting the saints out of context but everytime I read his posts, particularly those that deal with purity, they are in many ways not out of context. My question is which particularly quotes that luigi has quoted are out of context.
Look, we live in a very immoral world and particularly in the line of work I am in it can be extremely difficult, and part of the problem is that people are not guarding what they look at, whether it is at women in the workspace, magazines and TV's. Granted most people are not brought up to be chaste, whether it is through parental influence or media influence or lack of moral formation, the problem is there. Most people are not afraid of hell and I guarantee you that if they had faith, and if they were raised with the consequences of what happens if they go into impurity they will repent. Our Lady of Fatima stated that most souls go to hell due to impurity. I take her at her word. So when these sainst like Alphonse de Ligouri, St John Vianney, St Louis de Montfort, St John Chrosystom, St Augustine, and the Mother of God herself speak about these evils, I don't believe it is a good idea for any one of us to simply say "It's not the Magisterium" so we don't need to listen to it, that is not a Catholic attitude to have. Southern Catholic, if that is not what you mean please correct me.
Let me give you an example of what I am talking about. A year or so ago Father Gabrielle Amorth said some explosive things about the Harry Potter books, basically saying that they were satanic and that they led straight to the devil. I wasn't surprised when most of the media reacted against it, but I was really surprised to see Catholics attacking Father Amorth. These were the Jimmy Akins, Amy Welborns that basically said that Father Amorth is not the magisterium so his words could be ignored. They disappointed me in many ways, not the least of which was their surprisingly un-Catholic attitude about the affair. Here is a priest who literally has confronted the devil and his legions thousands of times in his life(BTW, who on this forum can claim to have done what Father Amorth has), so he knows what he is talking about. For any Catholic to display such a blaise attitude to what this man had to say was surprising. True, he is not the magisterium and what he says is not dogma, but are you and I or anyone who is not a priest and particularly not an exorcist in any position to ignore him. A better attitude to have displayed is to read what he had to say, pray the Rosary for understanding and see if he is right, because if he is your soul, your child's soul is at stake if they are reading books they ought not to be reading. 2)
