It's not the sport in and of itself, but the culture, and the risk for the souls of impressionable young children who admire these idols of society.

Ashamed that traditional Catholics have given in to the "bourgeosie" culture of the Protestant ethic. Hurt to think that those who should be salt for the earth prefer throwing sand in others eyes to Charity and conversion. Veteran ashamed to think my brothers and sisters should pray for the destruction of the nation I served, consumed in hatred. May good priests offer the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass for the restoration of the Church, because I don't know where to find her at all any more. God save us all, and God give us the answers, because it seems no one has them.

Don't you think this is a little over-the-top? I think it's a great gesture- it reminds me of a proud son presenting something that means a lot to him to his father. And the Pope is, of course, our Holy Father

No offense, but are you a troll?

First you said it was an amoral sport. Then you said it wasn't the sport itself but the culture.

Didishroom, no I am not. I have been on this forum for a bit of time. Maybe I am the only one who is offended by this. I cannot make a judgement of all the players, but I do know that there is a great deal of unedifying behavior from all categories of sportsmen/celebrities.

I'm outraged as well. Why didn't West Ham give the Pope a football t-shirt?

But you are making a judgment. This man gives his jersey to the pontiff as a simple and wonderful gesture of appreciation.
But because, according to you, many sport men live amoral lives this man must be one himself and thus this whole gesture is wrong and makes you 'red in the face'? Even if this man does live an immoral life what does that have to do with giving the pope a gift? Did you realize that the Vatican is filled with priceless treasures that were not bought but given by countless heads of State for over a millenia, many of whom were definetly immoral?

Anyone want to fill me in on why football is diabolical and amoral? Dare I ask?

What is diabolical is that soccer is being called football.

I don't see any insult though.

Football in Europe is a kind of paganism with players worshipped like pagan gods(Zidane, Beckham...)
The money amounts paid to them are wholly immoral while a good part of these are earned by fraud. Corruption, cheating and scandals are everywhere.
Even poor peoples and workers are happy to spare money from their meager wages to spend it in the sunday's worshipping ceremonies.
Not speaking about the violence reigning in an outside the stadiums with alcohol, drug and immorality.

Sounds exactly like American Football. Only we don't have hooligans.

I think "ATrueCatholic" is having a laugh at our expense.
