I thought a priest said this once but I'm told now by my priest that that is a no-no even for Easter and Christmas?

Yes, you may receive Communion twice in the same day, but only if you're assisting at those Masses from beginning to end. This isn't only for Easter or Christmas, but applies all year.

Quote from: Catholiceducation.org
The Code of Canon Law (No. 917) stipulates, “A person who has received the Most Holy Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only during the celebration of the Eucharist in which the person participates, with due regard for the prescription of Canon 921, 2.” Following this lead, Canon 921, 2 stipulates, “Even if they have received Communion in the same day, those who are in danger of death are strongly urged to receive again.” Succinctly, a person may receive Holy Communion twice a day.

Praying for the dead is important. PM me if you need a cantor for the Requiem Mass of a deceased friend or family member. Have cassock and surplice, will travel. (Will also do weddings for a reasonable price.)

A priest once specifically instructed me that if I was at 2 masses, I should receive twice, regardless of Easter / Christmas.  However, no more than that.

Even priests can only do 3 if they're in a parish setting that forces them to.

If you assist at the vigil Mass of Easter or the Midnight Mass of Christmas you may receive again at one of the Masses during the day.

I was looking for the traditional 1917 Code perspective or even another SSPX perspective.

Since this is a matter left to the discretion of the Church, it falls under the power of binding and loosing, and so the 1983 Code's permission to receive twice a day (although I'd read it as saying that only the second time must be at Mass) is what the rule is.

That said, Canon 857 of 1917 Code said, "It is not licit for anyone to receive the most holy Eucharist who has received it already on the same day, except for the cases mentioned in Canon 858, § 1." 858(1) requires a fast from midnight, and provides an exception for those in danger of death (Viaticum) or to avoid irreverance towards the sacrament (for example, consuming many hosts to prevent their desecration).
