I've been going almost exclusively to SSPX chapels accross the country (4 different ones, regularly) for 18 years.  There are some strange people to be found there, but I've never found anyone who refuses to pose for pictures with their non-traditional relatives.  As someone else pointed out, it's probably a case of her putting her foot down after lots of intra-family squabbles.  We don't know specifics, so we can't say too much about it.  I've never heard any SSPX priests encourage this type of segregation either, for the record.
