I do the Rosary on a daily basis.  I use the common starting method, but I've been thinking of trying the Dominican Rite method.  Can anyone provide suggestions on how to do it, and are there any issues with the method of starting?

The Rosary, to be technical, consists only of the Paters, Aves and Glorias of the Decades. The methods of starting and ending are extraneous to it and pretty much a matter of custom &/or personal preference.

Rosarium gave me my start in Rosary-making.  Speaking of...I have a rosary that I started last month that I put down and never finished.  (and at only a decade and a half to go, that's pretty sad. ;D

What sort of rosary is it?

Two tone mission Rosary.  Black for the Aves and the pinky-red for the Pater nosters/Glorias.  (I actually have one With the colors reversed that I carry with me at all times.)

Not sure what the Dominican manner is, but I think I got mine from St Louis-Marie. I start it as if I was starting the Office with 'O, Lord, open thou my lips', etc.

Sounds rather close, im wondering if the method of beggining the Dominican Rosary Predates the more common way of starting with the Apostle's creed etc.

Ive posted the Dominican opening:

In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

V. Hail Mary, full of grace. the Lord is with thee.

R. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus

V. O Lord , open my lips.

R. and my mouth shall declare your praise.

V. Incline unto my aid , O God

R. O Lord make haste to help me.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,

R. as it was in the beginning, is now and shall be, world with out end. Amen. Alleluia. [in Lent, instead of Alleluia: Praise be to you, O Lord, King of eternal glory.]

I still say the Credo after the opening. Now I just need to remember the Marian versicle and response!

It took me a while to "adjust" to the Dominican Style of beginning the Rosary, but (god willing) as a future Friar I figure I better adjust .

I use and love the Dominican method.... because I have a short attention span.  Embarrassed Embarrassed  If I am tired, I will easily use the purported "difficulty" of getting through the Credo, etc. as an excuse not to start my Rosary at all. The Dominican way helps me get around that. No excuses, no slackin'. ;)

In response to the OP, I accept all three. Daily rosary is 5 decades and traditional rosary is 15, but if I am praying on a Thursday with someone who prefers to use the Luminous Mysteries that day, I do not get my kerchief in a twist about it. ;)

Obviously, 15 mysteries.

Privately in Latin, publicly in vernacular (out of costum) at the parish.

"And we, too, being called by His will in Christ Jesus, are not justified by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom, or understanding, or godliness, or works which we have wrought in holiness of heart; but by that faith through which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." — Clement, bishop of Rome

"I love truth," says he, "and not sects. I am sometimes a peripatetic, a stoic, or an academician, and often none of them; but—always a Christian. To philosophise is to love wisdom; and the true wisdom is Jesus Christ. Let us read the historians, the poets, and the philosophers; but let us have in our hearts the gospel of Jesus Christ, in which alone is perfect wisdom and perfect happiness." — Petrarch

Is there a reference to JP II saying that the Luminous Mysteries were only to be used for a single year?

The Luminous Mysteries were a legitimate addition to the Rosary by the late Holy Father; however, I never meditate upon them when praying Our Lady's Rosary.
