have you seen the film?
curious what you think?

I've seen it.  I thought it was a great portrayal of the contraceptive mentality taken to its logical conclusion.  In other words, what would happen if everyone chose not to pro-create.  Granted, in the film it wasn't a choice, but still a fine portrayal of the dystopian world of the population controllers.
Huh, perhaps I'll watch it then. I had heard the movie completely missed the point of the book and wasn't worth the time.

I just started St. Robert Bellarmine's The Mind's Ascent to God by the Ladder of Created Things. I must say that I was originally a little concerned that the writings of a Doctor of the Church might be difficult to understand or be so thick that it would be akin to reading a textbook. I could not have been more wrong. The text is actually a fairly quick read, however, I find myself stopping frequently to think about what I have just read and to consider how clearly the text phrases things that are certainly worthy of meditation. While I am sure that some of the textual clarity is courtesy of the translator, the concepts and explanations provided by St. Robert are incredible. I instantly found myself "ascending the ladder" if you will. In any case, there is still much reading to be done, but I am only allowing myself small parts at a time so that I can properly digest them and hopefully gain as much from the book as I can.

Today I received my copy of Trojan Horse in the city of God by Dietrich von Hildebrand.  I'm pretty excited to read it, its something I've been wanting to get for a few years.  Thank you to my wife for ordering it for me without telling me.  It was a nice surprise.  (She lurks and will see this  ;D)

The Prince by Machiavelli, Day of Reckoning by Pat Buchanan, and sometimes James F. Cooper's Last of the Mohicans, since it's on my phone, so I pick it up whenever I'm not too busy.
On my sofa, I have a copy of Chez Jacques, by Jacques Pepin - I've done a quick skim of that book, but I haven't really gotten too far into it.

Currently reading "Etiquette" by Emily Post and "Timber Design and Construction Handbook" by the Timber Engineering Company. Also still working on "This Is the Faith: A Complete Explanation of the Catholic Faith" by Canon Francis Ripley.

That is an excellent book.  If you like it, you should try The Scarlett Pimpenal.

Soon: The Selected Poems of Po Chu-I, Translated by David Hinton.

Reading leisurely through David Hinton's translations of classic Chinese philosophy and verse. Great stuff!
