Another question (just out of curiosity): why are the hours usually referred to by their French names?

The offices' names may look French, but this is only because of their etymology, which actually derives from the Latin.

Latin (preceding Ad omitted) — English — French

Matutinum — Matins* — Matines
Laudes — Lauds — Laudes
Primam — Prime — Prime
Tertiam — Terce — Tierce
Sextam — Sext — Sexte
Nonam — None — None
Vesperas — Vespers — Vêpres
Completorium — Compline — Complies

* The Anglican spelling, Mattins (which you may see used by Jovan ;)), bears even greater testimony to the Latin origin of the office's English name.

I'd try any Traditional Benedictine House

Touché.

your continued defence, support and puffery of 'McOffice', aka the LOTH gets rather tiresome. It is a radical departure from the Church's traditional Liturgy and I find it a bit surprising that anyone calling himself a Trad could argue in its favour.

The merits or demerits of the LOTH is way beyond the scope of this thread. In my defence though, any perusal of my past posts concerning the Divine Office bares witness to my harsh critique of the LOTH on occasion.

I promise not to put anything here which might help us question our mind-forged manacles, inspire us, or help us in any way at all.

N.B.: I will not be posting on this site again until the Christmas octave. Have a good Advent.

Mea culpa! I was a bit snarky, for which I apologise. However, I've used the LOTH and I cannot for the life of me understand why a Trad would choose it over the 1962 (or earlier) DO. In my pre-Catholic days I even used the Taize Office and I find even it to be head and shoulders above McOffice.

However, I do admit that you have criticised the LOTH.
