When I tired to upgrade my browser to IE 8, I recieved the following error message: The procedure entry point SHRegGetValueW could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll. Any thoughts on what I should do? Thanks.

Pray.

It is called "DLL Hell".

There is a slim chance I could help, but what is your previous browser, your OS version and do you have all the updates for it?

IE 6, XP home, and yes. What does this error message mean?

It means a DLL is missing. This makes sense now. Upgrade to IE7 first.

A DLL is a (Windows specific) shared library so that many programs can use it. If it is missing, that program cannot normally run.

Of, if you don't want to spend lots of money on a limited system, just download http://www.ubuntu.com/

If one wants Safari for Windows: http://www.apple.com/safari/

If one wants the best browser: http://www.opera.com/

This is old and you've probably fixed the problem by now, but in the future if you get error messages you can just Google the message word-for-word, and 99 times out of 100 you'll find a solution on the first page of hits. People rarely have unique problems with Windows' systems.

Reinstall.

Windows is not meant to be useful; it is meant to make you dependent and siphon off your money and time.
