Forget your lust for the rich man's gold/ All that you need, is in your soul/ And you can do this, oh baby, if you try/ All that I want for you my son/ Is to be satisfied

Quote from: Old Crow Medicine Show
All that we are is a picture in a mirror, with fancy shoes to grace our feet. All that there is, is a slow road to freedom; Heaven above and the devil beneath. We're all in this thing together, walking a line between faith and fear, this life won't last forever - when you cry I taste the salt in your tears.

*Cord of St. Joseph. It's a light form of cororal mortification and as it goes around the waist it acts as a good reminder.
I have heard about the Cord of St. Joseph before. Is it supposed to be worn on the outside of your clothes or on the inside? At all times?

Inside.

One is not compelled to wear it at all.

I remove it for bathing.

Mortify the eyes. If you refuse to allow yourself even a second glance at any image which would be an occasion of sin, you remove the occasion of sin. Difficult initially, but gets easier over time.

Staring at a Crucifix seems to help remove most temptations of any kind, at least for me.

Arun, absolutely wonderful advice. I was going to say this also. I have never once had a temptation linger while gazing upon a Crucifix, meditating on the Blood which runs down its coarse surface, and contemplating Him Who is stretched upon it - maintaining the sincere desire to rid yourself of the temptation of course. It is the closest thing to a miracle that I have ever witnessed.

"The practice of the Church has always been the same, as is shown by the unanimous teaching of the Fathers, who were wont to hold as outside Catholic communion, and alien to the Church, whoever would recede in the least degree from any point of doctrine proposed by her authoritative magisterium" (Pope Leo XIII, Satis Cognitum, no.  9, June 29, 1896).

“Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time” (2 Peter 1:10).

When you are tempted, pray the Litany of St Aloysius, found here: http://www.catholictradition.org/Litanies/litany13.htm

Also, check out his Holy Card image at the link above...This saint of "angelic purity" is depicted gazing upon a crucifix, while holding both a rosary and a discipline.

Concupiscence be gone!

Just tape this up somewhere and stare at it whenever you are feeling the urge.  If this doesn't kill the mood, I don't know what would.

I'd throw myself into a thorn bush first.

Prayer for Chastity by Fr John Hardon, SJ:

“Immaculate Virgin Mary, I confide my chastity to your maternal heart. I ask your help to guard my senses, especially the eyes, for an unchaste eye is the messenger of an unchaste heart. Knowing my pride, I pray for that humility which invites the mercy of God. Knowing that I am human, I shall not be surprised at the urge of concupiscence, but trusting in your care I rely on your protection and all the graces that I need from your divine Son. Amen.”

That is a very good prayer. May God bless you for posting it.

It is noteworthy to consider the importance of the first part of the last sentence. All too often, people are taken by surprise by their overwhelming passions. Understanding their buoyance, famaliarizing yourself with their nature, and preparing for their attacks is paramount to countering their effects.
