"Scipio Bull Biscuits, a flawlessly indoctrinated feminist male." - paraphrased from voxpop in one of his shining moments!! "You've become a full adept to your kabbalistic philosemetism ...why not get it over with and fully convert to Judaism. At lest that would be respectable." - Popscile "[Scipio's] high on mouth and low on brains" - a brainiac "...all I can guess is that maybe you're gay and haven't figured it out yet." ....LOL "a malicious twerp" - A candylander "I ain't no freakin' monument to justice!" -Moonstruck "Check out the big brain on Brad" - Jules

Asperger's would have little influence in this. At this age, most of his social reactions are entirely learned and any choices concerning faith at this point are that of free will like everyone else's. I could lay out possible patterns, but they would be the same as anyone else's I think at this point. It is a tricky situation, however, if he has any faith in the Church, then he is most likely rather safe unless he CHOOSES to leave. I would recommend not being too strict on this. If this is his first encounter with protestants, it will be a time for education and strengthening faith. Most of my knowledge concerning the faith was actually inspired by encounters with protestants. If he uses the Internet, I'd give him this site: http://www.scripturecatholic.com/ or another like it, to consider. I'm sure there are good short books on protestantism that he could read too.

I say, armor up and offer to chaperon the retreat, I'm sure they'd be overjoyed to have another parent along. ;) My father and all of my half brothers and sisters fell sway to this evangelical nonsense.
Fast, pray and break out a large box of green scapulars (adding a St. Benedict's medal wouldn't hurt). Present it to the girl saying, "My son is fond of you and you've been so kind. It would mean a lot to me if you'd wear this as a token of my family's affection for you in return." If you give one to your son, too, she's likely to just think it's some sort of Catholic couple's thingy and not give it a second thought or think it's totally cool.
My prayers for my family don't seem to go farther than the ceiling at this moment in my life but I'll add you and your son to my list and we'll hope for the best..

Live your life in such a way that every morning when your feet hit the floor...Satan shudders and says..."Oh No...he's AWAKE!"
Sometimes the Internet reminds me of being in a chicken coop with an infinite number of Chicken Littles at any given millisecond dodging pieces of their falling skies.
There is a subtle difference between "invincible ignorance" and intolerably stupid.

Thank you sir, I thought of the green scapular, my Son used to wear the brown scapular, but I noticed he hasnt been wearing it lately (i suspect because of her influence) but he may have not been wearing it for along time and i havnt noticed. DKnight, you and I seem to butt heads but you always come thru when it counts and again forgive me any past peckerness on my part. As for the chaparone Idea (beside the fact that my son would absolutly quash the idea making it ineffective) I want you to visulize the last scene in DOGMA if you saw it (not that I promote that movie but many catholics have seen it) or the Lord of the Rings movies where the heros rack up points dispatching their enemys.....thats about what it could look like if you stick me in the middle of one of these charismatic worship rock concerts but your parayers are welcome.......I think I will fast the two days he attends this nonsense, thats a very good Idea. And I think Satoris advice was real conmforting as well.. And people dont think I hold myself blameless in all this.....its my ^%$%$^%$ temper that has cause some of this im sure of it!

Believe me I know about having one's parent as a chaperone, my mom did it until I moved 1200 miles away to college. Nevertheless, it makes a strong statement to HER parents that you're not giving up your son without a fight. As to head counts, you say that as though it would be a bad thing! ;) As to "peckerness," I think that we're both in rather painful places in our lives. Sometimes we just seem to be standing too close when that lightning bolt zings out. No hard feelings.

His heart is in the right place, it's his fingers that are perplexing ;) He's gone through hell, if you can peel away the scars, there's some good advice there. He comes from a place where innocent people are martyred for their faith and the peacemakers have until very recently just been picked off by snipers from both sides. I've friends from the North - they're just more circumspect than DK, whom I suspect is much more mundane away from the anonymity of the internet. Besides, it's always good to have someone with his "experience" watching your back, damn handy people when it gets nasty.

Am I wrong in saying I would rather he bacame an athiest for awhile rather then a protty?
I think apostasy is worse then heresy, personally. A complete denial of God would tend to deny His grace completely as well. Plus, as a Prot, he would still have the moral values found in the 10 Commandments. As an atheist, he'd make his own up. Yes, but remember: I know thy works, that thou art neither cold, nor hot. I would thou wert cold, or hot. But because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, not hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth.

I'm not quite sure what Scipio said that merited such a response, but somehow I don't think that's necessary. If we want souls (such as your son's) to turn away from their flirtations with heresy, setting a good Catholic example is a good place to start. Either way, he'll be in my prayers.
