On the contrary, if there is an obsession, perhaps it is the ones who spend every day running a razor over their skins for no real reason.
Reason: because we feel like doing it. I guess he's saing that doing what you feel like doing is not a real reason. EDIT: And I would probably agree with him because doing what you feel like doing doesn't do much to separate us from animals. No, actually, although that is a valid point. I think the real reason would take a bit longer to explain. Maybe I'll put it on my blog and then give a link on the forum so it doesn't overshadow this thread. I think once I explain how I see this issue people will see it is not an obsession. Okay. Please post it when you finish it. I'm fairly certain I already know your position, but I would be interested in reading it.

Why not a German Shepherd?

Why not a German Shepherd? I have nothing against Shepherds; they're great dogs. But I've had four Huskies in the last 18 years (two are still alive and well), and they've been nothing less than excellent. Beautiful, caring and playful dogs, they are. It's just my personal preference, that's all. ;)

"It preaches that not only in civil affairs, which is not Our concern here, but also in religion, God has given every individual a wide freedom to embrace and adopt without danger to his salvation whatever sect or opinion appeals to him on the basis of his private judgment. The apostle Paul warns us against the impiety of these madmen" (Pope Leo XII, Ubi Primum, n. 12).
"Likewise, peace is rooted in respect for religious freedom, which is a fundamental and primordial aspect of the freedom of conscience of individuals and of the freedom of peoples. It is important that everywhere in the world every person can belong to the religion of his choice and practise it freely without fear" (Pope Benedict XVI, Address to Five New Ambassadors, 18 May 2006).

Well, not everyone has communication with them: only the people with silver-colored soul patches.

Control your self: Think before you speak, do not say things to hurt or make fun of others, or to brag. Do what needs to be done, leave nothing that needs to be done today for tomorrow. Do things the right way, fully. Do not be mastered by your passions but master them.
Do not let irrational fear control you or hold you back. There are rational fears, and there are things that are foolish to do - but often we fear things that we need not. Just do what needs to be done. Don't think "Oh, it will not be perfect" or "I am not completely ready" - a lot of guys do this. Take small steps and begin because if you wait forever, you will never begin.
Be kind to animals, children, strangers, people you know... everyone. Pray for everyone you see during the day before you to bed. People you pass on the street, the cashier at the store, you friends, your family, your teachers, your bosses, your co-workers, the people you knew 10 years ago and haven't seen since...
Don't worry about guns. It is really funny some people think they are "manly" now but when they came out it was almost universally believed they were wicked, any bumbling idiot could kill anyone effortlessly, which has been proven true.
Eat what is good for you and ignore anyone that says to eat only meat... eating only meat will make you constipated and increase the chances of you getting bowel cancer tremendously.

Well, then there are virtually no real men here on this site. Almost everyone here writes to make fun of (if not hurt) others, or to brag, at least some of the time.

I disagree. Most of the things you talk about apply to women as well as to men. We're talking about what makes for a real *man.* Being proficient with deadly arts (which need not be but often does mean firearms) is definitely manly.

Satan is the originator and prince of death so I'm not going to be in the business of glorifying it.
Perhaps there are no real men. Just because we would not like it doesn't mean it is not true.
The popular idea of "manliness" as some kind of suave killing machine that puts others down to lift themselves up is straight out of barbaric pagan cultures and has nothing to do with Christ who refused to hurt those who would hurt him, and asked God to forgive them while he was suffering at their hands.
